The satirical point, Ashraf Jan, which Yaggi makes is that you have blinkered Pakistanis who are so deeply entrenched inside the cult of Mughalesque/Jinnah worship that no matter what the contradictions these folk fight to keep it alive and thriving.

You call Bollywood secular. Most art is. But the very Indian secularism that Pakistanis are schooled to despise is lapped up through cable, DVD, music, fashion and cinema.

Yaggi makes an important point. With that level of loyalty to popular Indian culture, why did some Muslims opt for partition? And why thereafter was a practising Muslim like Bacha Khan vilified for wishing to have peaceful, normalised relations with India, encouraging Pashtoons to emancipate themselves through peaceful means and leading the call for Pashtoon unity?

Our members here who are ready to excuse Pakistan for commiting those excesses might do right to explain how the daughters of Pakistan can public dance wearing noodle strap dresses in the name of an Islamic Republic.

i am going to be honest, i haven't celebrated or even said happy independence day to anyone in the last 10 years atleast, back in the 90's i use to celebrate it but in the last 10 years i haven't bothered. I believe we should celebrate anything good coming out of the country, but for the last 10 years i have seen nothing but bad things coming out of pakistan, i haven't lost hope but i must say i am really really disappointed in the country and its people, it seems like they have no will to change and every year they keep going in the opposite direction, why should i celebrate when nothing positive is coming out of the country? and whatever positive their is left their destroying it.

Again i wish things will change, but i dont see it happening in the near future atleast. I dont know, maybe things will change if Imran khan gets elected but he doesn't control the army or ISI

There is no difference between Pakistan and India, culturally speaking. Both are very secular and uphold secular thought. Some pride themselves in not being religious and cultural.

Pakistanis are actually schooled to uphold secularism and such. The state of Pakistan was founded on secular rules out of line and against the Sharia system. This anti-conservative nature is one of the main reasons they have been at loggerheads with conservative areas, especially in Pashtun areas.

This secularism and subservience to the US has produced the reactionary rise in Islamic thought in areas such as Waziristan, not unusual.

These pictures prove the social ills of secularism that Pakistanis have embraced since day one.

The problem for Muslims, especially those in Pashtunistan (and KP where some of these social ills are rising) is that the longer they linger and dance with secularism, the more likely they will eventually absorb fully with the Pakistani state, and forget about their traditional roots. This is the danger. ANP is not the answer, and has not been the answer for Pashtun unity.

oh please, what does that have to do with i said? thats blind nationalism anyways, which is bad because all the bad things that are in society always remain because of blind nationalism. To fix the problems you have to be realistic and actually try to fix the problems, we have to be honest with ourselves and dont lie to ourselves just because of nationalism

A country may celebrate Independence when it becomes independent and used to exist before the proclaimed date of independence.

Yes, and water is wet, the night is dark and little kids are cute.

You couldn´t come up with a more general comment, right?

Pakistan´s Independance Day means the undermining of Pashtun culture, heritage and Pashto language.
If people wanna celebrate it, they should do it.

Let´s separate the wheat from the chaff.....it´s long overdue!
                        The only constant is change.
