(RTTNews) - A district intelligence official of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province was killed in a roadside bomb explosion on Thursday.
Payenda Khan, district head of a national directorate of security, was driving to his office when the blast occurred in which three children were also injured, a spokesman for the Provincial Governor said.
Khan was the intelligence chief of Kunduz city's fifth district. He died on the spot.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the killing and said that the bomb was remotely detonated by one of its fighters.
The murder comes after three suicide-bombers on Tuesday attacked a guesthouse in Kunduz, killing four Afghan security guards employed by a German firm.
The relatively peaceful Kunduz province has seen a series of high-profile attacks and assassinations in recent times as insurgents wanted to take the fights beyond their traditional southern heartland of Kandahar.
