PressTV - US-led raid kills 16 Afghan civilians

A US-led airstrike in the troubled eastern Afghanistan has killed at least 16 people, mostly women and children, officials say.

The causalities come after an airstrike targeted residential areas overnight in the Azra district of Afghanistan's Logar province.

"Twelve civilians, including women and children, were killed last night when NATO planes targeted two houses," AFP quoted a regional police chief as saying.

The official also said that the bodies of four suspected Taliban militants had been recovered from the rubble.

Last week, the death of two children in a US-led airstrike sparked demonstrations in southern Afghanistan. NATO says it is investigating the incident.

The United States is pressing ahead with its attacks in Afghanistan despite continuous protests from the Afghan people and government.

President Hamid Karzai has repeatedly condemned attacks on civilians, saying NATO must stop searching for suspected terrorists in Afghan residential areas.

Hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in the US-led airstrikes and ground operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans growing frustrated over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.

The attacks have left a large number of Afghan civilians dead since the start of the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The surge in violence comes despite the presence of 150,000 foreign troops, which are engaged in the so-called war on terrorism.

The war in Afghanistan, with civilian and military casualties at record highs, has become the longest war in US history.

I do not say that this information is not true.

But I say that Press TV is the mouth peace of the Iranian regime and it is a shame to objective journalism in general.

News is news. You are supporter of war on the Afghans. Nothing you say has any value whatsoever

News from the Fox News of the middle east, also known as Press TV, should not always be taken as the holy truth.

I support war on you, the Paki Pathans, not on true Afghans.

Regardless; the same can be argued for any journalistic source from any country. There's no apparent alterior motive here for them to present such information. So to use such an argument as a pretext to disregard any information from them is faulty.

For if that were the case, that would mean all American media is run by the CIA, and thus cannot be trusted.

                  Mostafa,

lol, nice try at trying to divide Muslims up.

It never works. there is no border. As there are Ghaljays in Kandahar, there are also Ghaljays in Quetta. There are Kakars and all other tribes there.

You seem hell bent on dividing us. stop being a Tajik nationalist. And also, understand that there will only be Sharia, and nothing else. Quit this ethnocentric Saleh mind set of yours. People spit on Saleh and Abdullah Abdullah.

Secondly, you seem out of touch. You can find Maseeds in Logar and Waziristan. See, you can try your best, you will never divide us.

                    Read the article again:
it definitly tries to show that the American forces act regardless of what the Afghan president says, it states that civil areas are deliberitly attacked.

Just by some symantic games one can highlight a story in a whole different way.

Neither Al Jazeera nor BBC World Service have reported about this issue quickly.
And if they report, their way of stating facts objectivly has not the aim to polarise a sociaty.

And please take a look at the 6 LAST SENTENCES which have nothing to do with the incident but are purely directed towards an audiance that as to be convinced of Iran´s anti-American policy in general.

A true Afghan knows his enemies and his friends.

He knows that an inner unification between Pashtuns is the only way to drag the Pashtun sociaty out of the influence spheres of regional and international powers.

He knows what his national interests are and how to achieve them.

A true Afghan is what Pashtuns call " yaw sarrey che ham de turra day aw ham de qalam": a man of war AND a man of knowledge.

If he has only tura in mind, he will end up as SSG commando soldier in the Paki Army killing his brothers in Waziristan, if he has only qalam, he will be limited to talking only.

That´s my perception of a true Afghan!

That's not exactly a sound measure of something being falsified; It has happened that the BBC has reported News which other news agencies never have, Likewise in America certain News is reported not reported elsewhere. This does not mean the events didn't occur. It is their editors and program directors who decide to publish reports or not, it is wholly under their discretion. Are there possible ulterior motives for this? Perhaps, but the way we measure this is by what possible motive there would be; who's vested interests are present in the region. So far since the U.S. has invested billions of dollars in the region, their vested interest seeems to be the greatest and thus would be more likely to promote media coverage which would favor their interests.

The U.S. Media does the same thing you speak of, for example in certain news articles which deal with NATO soldiers getting killed by Afghan Rogue Officers; they comment about Taliban suicide attack or mention how insurgencies have caused more casualties. This is common not just in Fox News, but CNN, Msnbc. and a few others.

The reason they do this is to add context to the report. I'm not saying that PressTV is 100% Truthful; but you need more than this to discredit the material.

                          Listen Paki,

Pashtun culture is mostly a pre-islamic culture.
You cannot change that with your "Ummah"-talking.

Tajik nationalism has nothing to do with Afghanistan or us Pashtuns.
Stop blaming everything on the wrong people.

Ask yourself how your insurgency gets weapons, logistics, training and intelligence. I guess their capacities of being a self-sufficient army is limited to the help they get. Would be nice if you could answer where they get this help from.

That's very vague; because this can vary between many Afghans.

How old is Afghanistan as a Nation?

Pashtun is a pre-Islamic Culture? any evidence for that? Where are references for Pashtuns in pre-Islamic literature? Where are references for Pashtun cultural or ethnical framework prior to Islam becoming predominant in the region?
