Is not, beloved readers, the brazen attack on Kabul Intercontinental Hotel yet another attempt by Taliban, the enemy of peace and civil order, to destroy the historical monuments of Afghanistan and terrorize those who wish to rebuild Afghanistan? First of all, our condolences and prayers with the families and victims of the Taliban’s blatant attack on Kabul Intercontinental Hotel which left many dead and wounded. US Central Command’s Digital Engagement Team strongly condemns such vicious acts of terrorism by Taliban, murderers of peaceful Afghans and enemies of peace in Afghanistan. Dear readers, the attack on the Intercontinental is, unfortunately, not the first of such assaults on privately owned hotels, business centers, and public institutions built or rebuilt with millions of Afghanis invested by international and Afghan investors. Previously, the Serena Hotel, the Safi Landmark Hotel, Kabul Bank – as well as the Froshga-e-Buzrgi Afghan, a historical market center for people in Kabul, have been targeted by the insurgents in similar bloody fashion.
Despite several statements released by Taliban calling on their militants to avoid civilian casualties and their claim to be protectors of civilians, Taliban rhetoric is the opposite of reality. For example, in their spring campaign Taliban specifically address the issue of civilian casualties and vow to avoid them. But the Spring month of May, 2011was called the bloodiest month for Afghan civilians since 2007 by United Nations. Three hundred sixty eight civilians killed and 593 wounded, 88% of the casualties were attributed to Taliban and anti government forces. http://unama.unmissions.org/Portals/...POC_Pashto.pdf
Of the many desperate, repulsive tactics employed by insurgents in Afghanistan, “bloody May” is among the worst on record. Authorities say that an 8-year-old girl was tricked into carrying a concealed bomb close to a police vehicle, where it was remotely detonated; only she died. http://taand.com/index.php?mod=artic...&article=27448 Coward Taliban militants do not have the courage to face the Afghan and International Security and Assistance Forces, instead they use children in suicide attacks, and then later gloat about Afghan forces not being capable of fighting them and taking over security responsibility. The following is a quote from chief of security transition in response to those who wish that Afghanistan never becomes a fully developed strong nation, “In any way possible the program of transition will be implemented successfully; our enemies know that they don’t have the capability to hurt our national intentions, “Mr. Ahmadzai security transition chief continued, “Our country is ready to take any necessary sacrifice in this path. The following video testifies to the courage of brave Afghan sons and daughters in uniform. Taliban, weak enemies of Afghanistan, are in great fear that future generations of educated Afghans will be loyal to their country and its best interest, and not to Mullah Omar or Al-Qaeda (AQ). With that fear in their heads Taliban and AQ threaten the Afghan population with indiscriminate violence, oppressive practices, and the imposition of an extremist ideology. Therefore schools have become their primary target as lack of education prolongs illiteracy and enables Taliban to easily recruit the illiterate. I ask you, dear readers, to watch the following video and witness Taliban militants proudly burning a school in Helmand province. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n1361563.shtml
