  • Pak-Afghan Commission: Upper Dir incursion to figure in talks with Kabul

ISLAMABAD: The three-day incursions, allegedly carried out by Afghan militants, on the Shaltalo checkpoint in Upper Dir will be one of the vital issues that will figure in the opening session of a high-level Pakistan-Afghanistan joint commission on June 10 in Islamabad, an official source told The Express Tribune on condition of anonymity.

Islamabad will take up the issue with President Hamid Karzai during his forthcoming visit to Pakistan, the source said. However, reports have surfaced that the incursions that killed over 28 policemen, security forces personnel and civilians, were carried out by the Afghan army and sponsored by US, Nato forces.
Meanwhile, Islamabad had already taken up the issue with the US and Nato forces, a foreign ministry official said. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain issued a stern warning to Nato and Kabul soon after the incursion took place, saying, “Nato is either incompetent or complicit with the infiltrators.”
The attack prompted a cabinet meeting of the K-P provincial government that also asked Islamabad to ensure the safety and security of the people in the region. The Inspector General police Fayaz Turo briefed the cabinet about the assault and also lodged protest with Kabul, requesting President Hamid Karzai to look into the incident.
The cabinet also decided to raise tribal Lashkars in the province, particularly in Chitral, Bajaur and Dir where the situation was much more sensitive when it comes to infiltration from across the border.
Meanwhile, intelligence sources have rejected a statement by Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which has claimed responsibility for the cross-border attack in Shaltalo. “The TTP is known for making phony claims to panic people,” an intelligence official told The Express Tribune.
An Islamabad-based analyst, Brigadier (retd) Shaukat Qadir has also rejected the Taliban claim. He told The Express Tribune that a Special Task Force, comprising Afghan Army soldiers, were suspected to be the attackers.
He added that the special force had been trained to carry out a secret US sponsored war in Pakistan and to teach a lesson to the security establishment for not cooperating with them.
A senior police official in Peshawar told The Express Tribune that the government had sufficient evidence that the attack on Upper Dir was sponsored by the US, Nato forces and not by Taliban.
“That is why the provincial government had lodged protest with Nato and the Afghan government,” he added. “We never lodge a complaint with Nato or the Afghan government for any terrorist attack by the Taliban,” he added.

    • how could it be US funded khost militias when khost doesn't border dir?

the paki taliban have horrible credibility but i wouldnt discount their claim. what i would discount are paki govt claims that hundreds of people were involved in the attacks. the ttp themselves said it was 40-50 people. not to mention, i haven't heard any paki taliban saying the afghan taliban were involved. the afghan taliban have said, from ur link, that what happened was a local matter.

also, i would never trust the word of these retired paki military people who all of the sudden become "experts" and "analysts." these people are delusional india obsessed fools who view afghanistan as chatalistans 5th province, and are vocally anti US when behind the scenes their pensions are paid with american money.

      • Did you read Barakzai's post properly? Khost Protection Force is just a name. Read the links, and watch the PBS documentary at the specified points.

The TTP did claim that Afghan Taliban were involved in it. I remember because I read the article where they claimed it. I read a lot. I will post the article when I find it. It was in Express or News international.

        This was then denied

all that would prove is that the ttp are liars and that their rejection of responsibility for attacks that kill civilians then comes into question.

No, it doesn't . It only requires common sense. Of course they would be eager to claim they were behind this on the Pakistani forces, in the same way that Pakistan was so eager to pin the death of Bhutto on them, which they denied in response.

              • comparing them to the paki govt is fitting, as they are both liars.

they lie about one major attack but their credibility is still intact according to u? wtf?

These sons of b-i-t-c-h-e-s are killing Pashtuns on both sides of the border that are fighting against what they view as American occupation. They routinely kill and torture Pashtuns in Khost itself. Their presence is becoming more and more known and folks are pickin g up on their CIA roots. The tables have turned and they are now recognized as paid puppets.

This video is from months ago before this shelling.

In the aftermath of the killing of Osama bin Laden, FRONTLINE presents two inside views of the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Then, look at the segment on the KFP starting at 2 minutes and 50 seconds. The interview from the former commander and the wiki leaks war logs discussed at 3 minutes 50 seconds indicates that they shelled inside Pakistan.

This article indicating a militant raid:

Was likely a similar CIA oufitted raid that killed innocent Pashtuns in Bajaur (KPF is not solely based in Khost anymore). The idea was to pose as the militants and raid across the border. Yet it makes no sense why Afghan militants would want to make themselves unwelcome in Bajaur where they find refuge from time to time it seems.

The hilarious thing is how incompetent the KPF is. They were actually gaurding the base in Khost that the CIA agents were killed in:

They could not even gaurd their own territory against an Arab.

However, they were incompetent even when protecting their own; who were initially referred to as civilians.

What does this chalk up to? That they are killing Pashtuns, at the behest of foreigners in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, and they are getting paid for it.

Why does all this matter? Its as we discussed before, you and I. Similar to the incursions that the Zahir Shah government fomented, by arming Kharoti mercenaries, into Waziristan, knowingly arming clear enemies of the some of the Yargu Khel Wazirs, these folks know that they are creating a situation where Pakistan maintains strategems focused on its strategic depth policies.

The KFP's activities are bound to create situations such as this shelling incident. The organizations raid Bajaur and FATA and excite ill will.

This however does not justify the killing of Pashtun civilians in retaliation. Rather, the KPF sticks out like a sore thumb ala the Khost incident.
Did you read the above post? Did you really watch the video, and read the linked articles?

Here, I will emphasize the parts for you.

This is a wicked game being played on Pashtun people on both sides of the Durrand.

There is a lot of confusion about this. People are not lying, they are simply confused.

                  • i read the post. there is no new revelation there. if afghan US funded militias carried out the attack then how is that any different than the ttp who carry out the same attacks against the paki army which is routine? both kill pashtun paki rangers in ugly khaki uniforms, no?

the point here is that u admit the ttp admit to an attack that they did not commit and somehow u say that this lie does not damage their credibility. lying = lying. not confusion.

i still believe it was the ttp, and i wont take the word of some retired paki **** general. its the pakis who always blame their ****ty situations on others be it afghanistan, us, indians, or others.

                    • KPF being behind these attacks, and posing as something they are not does matter. It is different because it reveals that US is trying very hard to pressure Pakistan to carry out a full scale offensive in FATA and KP, to continue a war against only Pashtuns.

This is why it is different.

                      • the objective of this is to squeeze pashtuns from both sides. The US has constantly asked Pak to do North Waziristan operation.

US on one side, and Pakistan Army on the other. That is the objective.

Believe what you want to believe.

Some Pakistan officials rejected their admission, and they would be very eager to vilify Pashtuns- so there is a lot of credibility to an ex-official saying this. You are going in circles.

                            1) US keeps asking Pakistan to stop Afghans from crossing into Afghanistan, as if that is the main reason why they are losing the war. They keep asking for North Waziristan operation to which they are flat out told no.

                            2) Pakistan is not interested in conducting an operation in North Waziristan, not because they love Pashtuns, but because it is not in their interest

                            3) so suddenly there are a spate of massive border incursions like no other ones. Western news outlets and some Pakistani news outlets repeatedly say that Afghan Taliban carried out these cross border attacks. It was like they were trying to test the waters to see if people would actually buy into it. One Pakistan official blames Afghan Taliban. A Pakistani official says Afghan Taliban carried out these attacks in Dir.Taliban border attack kills 34 in Pakistan

                            4) which the Afghans deny > Pakistan News Service - PakTribune

                            5) and now there is the present result which is resulting in more Pashtun bloodshed. Notice that US-NATO is keeping silent on this issue of the Pakistani shelling of Afghanistan? Not even responding to the Kabul governments concern. The whole drama is stupid. I mean USNATO is bombing Afghanistan. Obviously, they want Pakistan to join them as they did in Swat.
