PressTV - 2 more US-led troops die in Afghan war

Two more US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan as foreign troops face a major hike in the number of deadly attacks against them in the past month.

NATO said on Tuesday that the soldiers from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) died during militant attacks in eastern Afghanistan a day ago, Reuters reported.

The Western military alliance did not reveal the nationalities of the soldiers or the exact location of the incidents.

According to the independent iCasualties.org website, at least 256 US-led soldiers, most of them Americans, have died in Afghanistan so far this year.

Tens of thousands of civilians have also lost their lives since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.

The security situation has been steadily worsening across Afghanistan over the past few years despite the presence of around 150,000 US-led foreign troops in the country.

More US-led foreign forces have been killed in Afghanistan as NATO troops continue to face some of their deadliest days in the war-torn country.

The military alliance said a Georgian soldier has lost his life in a militant attack in southern Helmand Province.

Earlier, two other soldiers were killed in the east of the country. No further information is available.

The latest deaths come at a time when the United States has confirmed holding talks with the Taliban to seek a political solution to the Afghan war.

Nearly 260 soldiers -- most of them American, have been killed in the country so far this year.

The developments come as the security situation continues to deteriorate in Afghanistan with US-led troops and government forces killed by Taliban militants on an almost daily basis.

The security situation has been steadily worsening across Afghanistan over the past few years despite the presence of around 150,000 US led foreign troops in the country.

A NATO soldier was killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in restive southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, bringing to four the number of casualties of military alliance in the country since Monday morning, Xinhua reported.

"An International Security Assistance Force service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today," said a statement issued by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) here on Tuesday.

Earlier Tuesday, the multi-national ISAF also confirmed losing two soldiers in two separate insurgent attacks in the country's volatile eastern provinces on Monday.

Another ISAF service member was killed in an IED attack also in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

The NATO-led ISAF generally does not disclose the identity of the casualties, saying "It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Troops mainly from the United States, Britain, Canada and Australia have been stationed in the southern region within the framework of ISAF to fight Taliban militants there while U.S. forces mostly have been stationed in the eastern part of the insurgency-hit country.

Over 250 NATO soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan since beginning this year.
