  • Australia Considers Killing Camels to Tackle Climate Change

    http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/...limate-change/

Kill a camel to stop pollution? That's what Australia is considering.
The Land Down Under is considering killing feral camels to help tackle climate change, according to a report by news service AFP.
The suggestion came in a paper from the country's Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency. A camel produces methane equivalent to one ton of of carbon dioxide a year, making the animal one of the country's biggest greenhouse gasses emitters, it noted.

nature cannot harm nature, camles belong in wild. there must be thousand other animals to be destroyed as well if this is the case.

Then they need to get rid of termites since termites are the biggest producer of methane gas in the animal kingdom

LOL I was joking they didn't took it by force. It was Kandahari Camel Businessman who went their but like Slaves or servents but rather their heads high they get paid for their work. All of the Camels that left Afghanistan from 1860 up to 1890 were going towards South Africa, and mostly Australia they were never returned because it was own by individual Kandahari breeders. Well I am mentioning only Kandahari because majority of them were from Kandahar, needless to say but also from other cities such Laskar Gah, Ghazni and Balkh, Kabul and many others.

Australia never had Camels, today there are over 1 million Camels in Australia mostly feral camel population (not Afghan but Arabian) which is doubling every nine years but still reasonable number of Afghan Camels amongst them some 50,000 I would say. From 1840-1900 over 15000 Camels were imported and 12000 were from Afghanistan. However from 1890-1930 more Arabian camels were imported because it was less expensise from around the world such as Turkish empire, British empire (Pakistan/India) as well as Middle East. But interestingly the Camels that did the job and were in demand were the wild Camels of Afghanistan. A Special name is given to them known as "Pakhtrian Camels" spelled in Latin As "Bactrain Camel".

not necessarily. at least one of mine, i know of, was guilty, but they were brought to australia by the brits, whether they wanted to come here or not.

yes they can, especially if they are not native. the hoofed animals do a lot of damage to the land here. none of the native animals are hoofed. but humans do a lot worse.
nick, it would be good though if afghanistan could take some camels as i think they are or have, culled them. they are invading aboriginal communities and becoming a nuisance.

hahaha, just read the article. 'nation of innovators', shooting from helicoptors or sending them off to abbotoirs, very creative. lol.
this rubbish about the greenhouse gases/farts, is a farce. there would have been so many more beasties on the planet before the colonisers killed them, for example in africa and buffaloes in america.

wouldn't killing people make a better environmental impact? maybe the developed world should look into offing themselves if they really want to go green.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
