New military operation to trigger war: JI chief
New military operation to trigger war: JI chief

LAHORE
JAMAAT-e-Islami ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has warned that the military operation in North Waziristan will trigger a war in the region with the Muslims bloodshed on both sides.
Expressing grave concern over the reports of military operation in North Waziristan in a statement on Monday, he stressed upon the government and the army to refrain from such an unwise move at the US bidding as Washington wanted to spread the war flames to every nook and corner of Pakistan and pit the masses against their armed forces.
He said the military high- ups and government ministers were repeatedly issuing statements that there should be no politicking on Karachi and Abbottabad incidents. The JI leader asked whether the patriotic people should keep silent if the civil rulers and armed forces accepted US slavery.
He said if the sovereignty and independence of the country was lost, the expertise and capability of the navy, air force and army became a question mark, an double murderer like Davis was freed and every US demand was accepted faithfully, should the masses keep silent. Should the people simply listen to the official statements of “no intelligence failure” and “no security lapse” with ease and composure, he asked.
Munawar said that in Quetta, innocent women and children from Chechnya were shot dead brutally and the colonel responsible for the incident had not even been relieved from his duty. He said the appearance of the civil and military leadership before the US Secretary of State after the Abbottabad and naval base attacks had forced the nation to hold their heads in shame.
He said a military operation in North Waziristan would be deemed to be in compliance with Hilary Clinton’s order and the civil rulers and armed forces would not get public support for that.
The nation, the JI chief said, was fast realising that the present civil and military high-ups were unable to protect people from US terrorism. Pakistan, he said, was confronted with grave threats from all sides, its economy had been ruined, people were deprived of basic facilities and confronted with the problems of lawlessness, unemployment, price spiral and loadshedding.
The parliament, he said, had adopted two resolutions on the US relations and the war on terror but the government had no intention to implement that, adding that the people would have to unite and come on roads to free themselves from the US slavery.

Pakistani warplanes have attacked Taliban positions in the northwestern Orakzai tribal region, killing 16 fighters, a senior regional government official has said.
Tuesday's strike came a day after a local newspaper reported that Pakistan would launch an offensive in North Waziristan, a known sanctuary for al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters on the Afghan border.
Orakzai is one of the tribal regions along the Afghan border where the Pakistani army has tried to root out armed groups with offensives against their strongholds.
"We had information that militants gathered there and were planning attacks so we launched the attack," Zaman Khan, a senior government official, told Reuters in Kalaya, the main town of Orakzai.
He said six fighters were also wounded in the strike.
Pakistan's performance in fighting armed groups has come under scrutiny after it was discovered that al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden had been living in the country.
Army operations have failed to break the back of armed groups such as the Pakistani Taliban, who have stepped up suicide bombings since US special forces killed bin Laden near Islamabad on May 2.
After the bin Laden raid, the United States told Pakistan it needed to step up the fight against armed groups.

Opposition politician Imran Khan has called for a rejection of US aid in Pakistan as the country faces pressures following the discovery of Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad.
The former cricketer is leading a campaign to stop Pakistani co-operation with America.
Some in the US are also calling for aid to Pakistan to be cut following Bin Laden's discovery but authorities have denied any collusion with the al-Qaeda leader.
Aleem Maqbool spoke to Mr Khan and began by asking for his response to recent militant attacks in Pakistan
