Dr Dipu Moni, foreign minister of 150 million Bengalis, 3rd largest Muslim nation in the world with Asfandyar Wali, leader of Pakistani Pashtuns and grandson of the legendary Badshah Khan.

Some quotes from Bangladeshis on bdmilitary.com

The Pathans are the best people from Pakistan. Naju was not alone, I knew some Pathan's who lived in Dhaka and they never supported the activities of the Pakistan Army. To this day these people continue to press for the Pakistan government to apoligise formally for the war time atrocities against fellow countrymen.

Bangladesh is not only for Bengalis, it is the home of every men and women who are open minded, honest and hard working. Pathans are great, honourable people and a friend of our country. Bangladesh should help the Pathan areas of Pakistan to bring them out of poverty and make them leaders of Pakistan. Then truly the relationship between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be transformed for the better. My Pathan friends still regard Bangladesh as their second home.

I have met few Pathans in the UK and all of them who are aware of 1971 have blamed Pakistan and showed great respect for the Bengalis. While I was living in the Crouch End area of North London I became very close with a Pathan family. They treated me like a member of their family and I had free access to their house. They were also very critical of the Pakistani action in 1971.

Unlike the other peoples of North Subcontinent, the Patahns always respected and admired the Bengalees for their love of freedom and resilience. This goes back to the time of our Pathan rulers. Having Bengal as the base of power the Pathans under Sher Shah had defeated the Mughals and taken Delhi.

Pashtun support for Bengalis in 1971.
It is generally known that the actions of a nation’s government are regarded as representing the people. So for instance if the government of Turkey fights a war against the government of Greece, we would say “the Turks fought the Greeks”. Or if the Turkish government supported or gave aid to Bosnia, we would say “Bosnia received help from the Turks.”
The question then is who represents the Pashtun nation in 1971.
The answer is Wali Khan and the ANP.
The ANP were chosen by millions of Pashtuns to rule their province in the 1970 elections. The Pashtun party, the ANP, was allies with the Bengali party, the Awami league.
        Support of Pashtun leader.

        Support of Pashtun nationalists.

Pashtun and Bengali, Wali Khan with Mujib.
The great Pashtun leader Wali Khan, not only supported Bengalis on a political level but also on a personal level. In the corrupt world of Pakistani politics where politicians are known for being corrupt, money-hungry and eager for power, Wali Khan rescued a young Bengali from imprisonment and possible torture or even death and helped him gain his freedom.
The Pashtun nationalists, in West Pakistan, left their homes and went out on the streets to protest against the actions of the government. This was not a democratic government or even a civilian one, but a military dictatorship. Due to supporting the Bengalis, the party was banned and Pashtun nationalists were imprisoned. In other words, why were they imprisoned? Due to supporting Bengalis.
This takes great courage and I as a Bengali have nothing but admiration for such Muslim brothers amongst the Pashtun nationalists that did that. For many of us our political activism is confined to expressing ourselves on internet forums. Maybe if we knew our boss would sack us, or we would get arrested for what we say online we would be different. We sit in comfortable rooms and chairs and type. The Pashtun nationalists of 1971 went out on the streets and got arrested.
If in 1971 the Pashtun nationalists, ANP, had managed to secure Afghani support and create an independent Pashtun state, then history would not be saying that the ANP supported Bengalis, but that the Pashtun government supported Bengalis, i.e. Pashtuns supported Bengalis.
The legendary Muslim leader, Fakhr i Afghan, (pride of Afghan), Badshah Khan, also supported Bengalis in 1970 and 1971. In 1970 he took part in helping the then East Pakistan recover from the massive flood it had suffered from.
In 1971 he supported the Bengali cause.

Badshah Khan continued as a great popular leader (without government appointment) for many years. In 1971, my friend Haider Ali Khan who fought to create Bangla Desh against the genocidal policies of West Pakistan, went to visit Badshah Khan and his son in Jalalabad (West Pakistan/Afghanistan). The latter were part of a strong anti-government movement in sympathy with the Bengalis; Badshah Khan, with some sadness, celebrated the justness of a mass, violent movement of succession which created Bangla Desh

Another Bengali who was in Quetta in 1970 writes:

Late in June 1970, having read in the newspaper that Bangabandhu was to make a tour of West Pakistan as part of his election campaign (I was in school in Quetta, Baluchistan), I wondered if it would not be a good idea getting his autograph. Like many other schoolboys at the time, I was in those days chasing all the famous men and women I could, for their signatures in an autograph book I had bought earlier. I had by then collected quite a few signatures, one being Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's. Since I did not want to miss out on Bangabandhu (my parents were sure he was going to be Pakistan's next leader), I walked down to the Baluchistan Awami League office where, to my amazement, Mir Mohammad Khan Raisani, chief of the party in the province, handed me an invitation to a dinner being arranged for the Bangali leader on 1 July. I danced all the way home. My parents and my siblings were delirious with joy. On the appointed day, in the morning, I skipped school and went to the railway station to see Mujib arrive. When he appeared at the door of the carriage he was in, all those Pathans and Baluchis cheered. I gaped at the man. I had never known he, a Bangali, could be that tall. But it was dinner that evening which remains an unforgettable event for me. As Bangabandhu walked toward the guests assembled on the lawn (and among those present were Abdus Samad Achakzai and Yahya Bakhtiar), I readied myself to shake hands with him. I was the only teenager in that big crowd of political adults.

        Pashtun’s rebellious and indomitable nature.

The Pashtun has become legendary for his love of Islam and his fearless nature. Even when all odds are against him, the true Pashtun, will fight for what he believes is right. This has been noted even by Pakistani military historians such as A H Amin.

The fact remains that in the first world war the Punjabi case for priority race for recruitment to the army was once again reinforced when the Punjabi soldiers, Sikh Muslim and Hindu loyally served the British in France Mesopotamia Egypt Palestine and Gallipoli. Philip Mason thus wrote that the "Punjabi Muslims were steady as a rock” while “a faint question mark hung over the Pathans” 50. Such was the difference in reliability within the units that when two Pathan squadrons of 15 Lancers passively refused to fight against the Turks in Mesopotamia, the Punjabi Squadrons remained staunch and the Pathan squadrons were disbanded and replaced by Hindustani Hindu Jat Squadrons from 14th Murray Jat Lancers!
The Pashtuns in Mesopotamia, (Iraq) refused to fight. Now it is well-known Pashtuns are natural fighters, so what stopped them from fighting against Turks? The answer was that when the Pashtuns found out that the Turks were Muslims, they refused to fight. Anyone who has served in the army knows the consequences of disobeying orders but this did not stop the Pashtuns in Iraq. The British therefore decreased their recruitment of Pashtuns.

The important part of the whole business was the fact that once 19,000 Nepali Gurkhas, who were in reality foreigners, included in the above mentioned total of 158,200 men are excluded the Punjabi share in Indian Army rose to 61.8%. The Pathans thanks to their political record in the First World War had been reduced to just 5,600 men 52 or just 4.02% out of which at least a thousand were non Pathans!

Pashtuns willingness to disobey what they regarded as immoral army orders and to fight on the side of what they thought was right also continued in 1971. Much to the ignorance of many Pashtuns, it is well known amongst some in Bangladesh that Pashtun soldiers were very different to Punjabis.

The owner of Bdmilitary.com writes about his grandfather:

Anyway the Pakistan Army came to his station one day and lined him and his policemen in one line and was going to execute them, though one Pakistani Pathan Major rushed to the spot and saved him and his troops. That Major was a friend of his.

Indeed Bengali servicemen were killed and also some real Mujahids of the Pakistan Army did also help their Bengali bretheren against the mercyless Pakistani troops
Now who were these Mujahids of the Pakistan army?
Another Bengali poster called “wartrap” writes:

Ofcourse, i have heard of some true Mujahideen renegade brothers of Pathan and Balochi descent (ex **** amry) who fought on our side in 1971 but till i know they were not from EBR

On another thread the same poster says:

Up with the Pathan bros true defenders of Islam.....the punjabis of every creed were are still are the worst race in the world....in fact they are the most conquered ppl in the world and callin them a martial race is the biggest military joke one could make....its the title they got from kissing gora ass ....there is no doubt a lot of Pathan bros supported bengalis against the dirty punjabis....there have been many cases in 1971 war where Pathan military bros sided with the fellow Bengali muslims after seeing the grievous anti-Islamic crimes against Bengalis in the name of religion....Punjabis did the ultimate crime in 1971 by killing fellow muslims in the name of Islam

          In other words.

1.Pashtun political leaders supported the Bengali leader Mujib in becoming prime minister.

2.Pashtun nationalists were imprisoned for protesting for the sake of Bengalis.

3.Pashtun civilians in the then East Pakistan refused to take part in the atrocities.

4.Pashtun soldiers refused to carry out atrocities and some defected to the other side. They were fighting with a lightly-armed guerilla group against a powerful army which had fighter-jets, artillery, ships and the state of the art military technology. They could have died in a far away land thousands of miles from their loved ones. If they survived they would have had difficulty in getting back to their homeland a thousand miles away.

They like their Pashtun predecessors in Iraq refused to do what was immoral, they were also prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for Bengalis.

They are true Pashtuns, they are true sons of Sher Shah Suri, Ahmed Shah Abdali, Faqir Ipi and many other great Muslim heroes. We ask Allah to give them jannatul-firdaus al’aa’la, the highest paradise.

Ahmed Shah Abdali, Muslim leader and Pashtun. Supporter of legendary Islamic scholar, Shah Ahmad Dahlawi.

Faqir Ipi, Islamic saint and scholar.

The noble Pashtun values of Nang (honour) and other Pashtun values have been seen in their actions. Wali Khan, Badshah Khan, ANP activists, Pashtun mujahideen in East Pakistan represent the Pashtu nation and 1971 was an hour of glory and honour of Pashtuns when they supported 70 million Muslims in East Bengal in gaining their freedom.

          ZINDABAD ISLAM, ZINDABAD PAKHTUNKHWA.

The above was taken from this thread: http://www.khyberwatch.com/forums/sh...Pashtuns/page2

A big thank you to the ANP, PMAP, Badshah Khan, Wali Khan and the brave Pashtun soldiers in 1971 who refused to kill Muslim Bengalis or even joined our side. I personally have read of one ex-Khudai Khidmatagar who went to East Pakistan to work and was there in 1971 and when the war broke out joined our side.

            Dheera manana.

May Allah ta'ala give him and others like him the highest level in jannatul firdaus.

            Ameen.

            Allahumma sallee alaa sayyidina Muhammad.

Dear bengali tiger shut your non-stop non-sense. For bengalis every west pakistani was punjabi whether they were sindhis or pashtuns. During traumatic events of 1971 they did'nt distinguish between pashtun, punjabi and sindhi civilians trapped in east bengal.... I have deeply studied the events of 1971, every pakistani civilian in bengal whether he was punjabi or pashtun had to face the wrath of enraged bengalis. There were many pashtuns in various places of east bengal, during violence they were butchered and their women were raped and then sold to calcutta's bazar-e-husan. After punjabis, pak army consisted of pashtuns so naturally bengali quench their thirst of blood by butchering every pashtun they encountered.
And dont praise pashtuns so much artificially, they along with punjabi soldiers killed your men and raped your women.

                  Luffy

Bengali Tiger is not talking about the bootlicker Pashtuns in the Pakistani army but the political parties of Pashtuns who were the real representatives of Pashtuns.Pashtuns in army or other bureaucracy do not represent Pashtuns while the political parties do.And ofcourse K.K was more than a party and a genuine indigenous movement of Pashtuns.

Infact the real creators of Pakistan were Bengalis who were sidelined. The current Punjab was Unionist,Sindh was under Bombay hence they did not even have the mandate to opt ,Pashtuns were not bothered as it was not Pashtuns issue ,they were rightly against Pakistan but were fraudulently made part of Pakistan through the fake referrundum.Qalat was a state conquered by the army then.So it is thought provokign that what Punjabis did with the real creators of Pakistan.Their resources and when they refused to accept their hegemoney how they killed and raped their women ,kids and elderly. We salute the brave Bengalis and I think Baloch and Pashtuns and then Sindhis should follow their footprints to win their freedom.
