Osama attack: Imran demands resignation of Zardari, Gilani

Lahore: Describing US operation in Abbottabad that killed Osama bin Laden a "failure" of Pakistan's political and military leadership, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on Friday sought the resignation of President Asif Ali Zardari and Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani.

"The Abbottabad operation has put the country's security at stake as it was a failure of the government and its agencies," Khan said.

He demanded the resignation of President Zardari and Premier Gilani.

Khan said Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani should explain the facts about the Abbottabad raid to the nation and he should resign if he is unable to do so.

"The Army Chief should resign if he fails to explain the US operation," he said.

The raid by US commandos had put at stake the sovereignty of Pakistan and undermined the country's integrity, he said.

Khan alleged that both the political and military leadership were involved in this incident.

Zardari and Gilani should apologise to the country for "their irresponsible statements regarding the US attack", he said.

Khan said his Tehrik-e-Insaf party will organise a sit-in on the route of NATO supply trucks if even a single US drone strike is carried out inside Pakistani territory now.

He demanded that the armed forces of the US and its allies should leave Pakistan and Afghanistan as they had achieved their objective of killing bin Laden.

He also demanded mid-term polls in Pakistan using electronic electoral lists and computerised national identity cards, saying the existing set-up had lost its credibility.

Khan criticised the country's rulers, including the PML-N leadership in Punjab, accusing them of looting and plundering the country's resources.

Commenting on the alliance between the PPP and PML-Q at the centre, he said that after PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, the PML-Q leaders too had reconciled with the PPP-led government.

These leaders had joined hands for a "corruption spree" and they would not hold each other accountable, he claimed.

Imran Khan is called Taleb Khan for his pro-Al-Qaueda rhetoric. But the guy is not even that. He is actually a Taleb in the day and a play-boy at night---a perfect hypocrite...

He should ask this resignation from Kiyani and Pasha for these are Kiyani and Pasha assumed to gaurd the frontiers of their state --- But obviously his Punjabi proximity and political opportunism are preventing him from demanding that....

Ghundal Khan though an Afghan is a follower of this ultra-hard Punjabi nationalist (aligned with Kiyani-Pasha-Gilani Punjabi troika)...
