  • Opinions on Ahmedinejad

I am wondering what the Pukhtuns here think of him.

Is he an oppressive murderous dictator or is he a hero standing up against Israel and the US?

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

So what is he? How would you describe him? Or do you have no opinion on him?

The key thing when discussing him, is to ask a question. Who are you talking to?

If it is a an Iranian: The issue with the vocal American-Iranian emigre population is that it very much resembles the vocal American-Afghan emigre population. Both groups are derived from generally elite, upper crust people whose parents fled their country in a time of turmoil instead of staying to craft the future of their country or help the poor fight American armed Iraq or the Russian juggernaut, respectively. Usually, these people's voices clamor for NATO/American intervention and for assisting Israel in destroying Iranian military and aerial capabilities and unleashing a pandoras box of problems for American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan if this were to be carried out. A washed up Prince Pehlavi would love it if the Karzai maneuver that was pulled on the Afghan populace were done to the Iranian populace, where a generally urban, effeminate, elite with soft hands who was absent during the suffering of his people were to be reinstalled via force. It was done in Iraq with the Chalabis and Malikis as well.

These folks generally claim that the Green revolution, a movement led by urban Tehranis, is representative of the more sizable rural population when in fact, this is clearly not the case.

An excellent article that was lost in the discussion about Ahmedinjaad versus Moussavi was the admission by the Washington Post that the coverage across the West was not at all accurate regarding Ahmedinijaad and the election:

"PIPA analyzed multiple polls of the Iranian public from three different sources, including some before the June 12 election and some afterwards. The study found that in all the polls, a majority said they planned to vote for Ahmadinejad or had voted for him. The numbers ranged from 52 to 57 percent just before the election to 55 to 66 percent after the election.

"These findings do not prove that there were no irregularities in the election process,” said Steven Kull, director of PIPA. “But they do not support the belief that a majority rejected Ahmadinejad.""

"The reason why Ahmadinejad might have really won the election – by something like the 2-to-1 margin in the official tallies – was that his support was concentrated among the urban and rural poor who benefited from government food giveaways and jobs programs and who tend to listen more to conservative clerics in the mosques.
Generally speaking, Mousavi had the backing of the urban middle class and the well-educated, especially in the more cosmopolitan capital of Tehran where universities became a center for protests against Ahmadinejad."

The admission by the Post that Ahmedinijad did actually win the election:

        http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...061401757.html

Generally, though, there is a great degree of unlikelihood that the US intelligence community or the US Army will bend to the Neocon will this time and attack Iran because there is a degree of collaboration between the two nations when it comes to Iran and Afghanistan as Iran and the US see a mutual benefit. An ideal situation for Iran is a low level insurgency that continues to bog the US down and distract it, but doesnt get rid of the Iranian friendly governments in both countries.

An eid gift for both insurgencies though, would be an American attack on Iran as it would throw the doors open for Iran to actually be a distractor for the US. Iran would likely then remove some level of cooperation with the US in its goal to stabilize both countries.
