I dont doubt that there is going to be a lot of discussion (there already is) regarding Bin Ladin's death. However, I cannot move mountains and change time, nor do I have knowledge of the unseen. I have to go on what appears logical enough to me.

So I think, as I was telling Mr. Dresden, you have to at least weigh what appears most likely and ask yourself as well about what appears to be the reality. At this juncture, we have multiple groups announcing that he has in fact been captured and is no more. Mr. Scheuer very smartly pointed out that this gentleman was not yet dead and remarked on the trait of the organization to consistently remark on the death of their members.

However, take a look at the videos Ghundal posted, they show a very media savvy insurgency leader focused on how his image and the image of his organization encounters the world. This is important because Michael does provide a very good description of how Mr. Bin Ladin recognized, astutely, that media matters. The deceased understood the power of the spoken and written word and was able to control an element of the insurgency he was a part of as in control of some element of the narrative.

Regarding Central Intelligence: I think you do have some incapable people like Larry Johnson and some above average folks like Bob Baer. However, I do honestly believe it would be unreasonable to underestimate their capabilities in any way per the recent demonstration of their abilities. The ISI actually mocked them about 2 years ago referring to Central Intelligence as "Innocent Little Boys" playing in a man's world. In my humble opinion, that role was very much reversed by the events of the last week. In fact, General Petreaus has been told to expect stiff resistance within the agency as Agency Officials are generally sour on the Afghan war.

Remember, intellignce and goodness do not correlate on 1:1 ratio.

The Insurgency also had to ask itself a few questions about American technological prowess and intelligence capabilities, especially after this last week. So too does the opposition to American agendas have to understand the immense fire power, powerful technological advantage, and the still very robust American economy.

As an example, one common claim I hear is that China is poised to surpass the US as the superpower... or that, in the least, it will return the world away from a unipolar one. I think when we look at China's behavior... it is generally not concerned with such hegemonistic goals as of yet. China avoids military footprints.
