the people responsible for these crimes are the individuals doing it. no need to blame others. apparently the taliban put a stop to this activity so it was around since before the taliban.

Its been around for thousands of years.

      So Faye,
'If someone does this to your son, and the authorities don't punish the perv. The perv comes back and does again and again or kidnaps your son and puts him in a brothel, when you report it to the authorities, they laugh at you.

This is OK with you Faye.

That's exactly what I am asking for Kakargirl. Unless there are pictures of their showing themselves off to the local population, we can't really say anything. These pictures are taken by none but themselves. No one can really say whether there's anyone (the women and children) around who could see them.

stupid bloody question khushal. the perpertrators are still the ones responsible for doing it. unfortunately some of the heirachy and some of the police tend to be involved in committing these crimes.

Bloody? I find it odd that americans and canadians didnt inherit this lingo.

Even if the authorities are not actually doing the crime, if they are doing nothing to stop it, then they are still responsible because that is their job. Remember when authorities cant or unwilling to bring justice, then the people will take justice into their own hands

what do they say? danged and damned?
yes, i realise all that khushal. you know by now i am not a fool, but it looked as though nato was getting the blame. i have read where a western doctor told 2 afghan men that they were getting gonorrhea (or whatever it was)because of anal sex (which they admitted to) and they did not believe him, even when they returned with the same problem a second time.

Khushal and Kakargirl... one thing I have been wondering about... was internet as easily accessible during the Taliban time as it is now?

See, I am not saying you should take your government as ideal, or completely stop criticizing it. I am only trying to compare the times, when you say it is way worse now than it was then. Now, at least I see people recognizing and bringing the evils out for others to question it.

I am not very sure if this was possible in those times. In a completely closed society that the Taliban had imposed on Afghanistan, few were there to find and eliminate the evil. The more freedom you have, the better informed you are. It helps cleanse the society. These are not honeymoon times for Afghanistan, so expecting too much out of this government would not be so wise. However, saying that it is way worse now than it was earlier, is outright negation of the good that came with it.

Dang is the PC word and damn is not.

Faye, Do you know why King Zahir Shaw was successful in keeping the peace during his rule. Its because he followed a federal style of governing. He let locals decide their own laws in their own areas and punishment was decided by the locals. If laws were not followed or enforced, blame never went to zahir shaw, it went to the local governing authority.

Today you see a centralized form of government. Governors are chosen by Karzai and even other local leaders are chosen by Karzai. So those appointees really have no motivation to work for the people they serve. the appointees motivation is to make Karzai happy(in other words send him bribe money). Thus the reason this government can not last even with a million troops.

My point is government is responsible for the safety of their citizens. Government is the shepard, citizens are the sheep, and the wolves are the criminals. But NATO has the wolves running the show. NATO is responsible for the safety of afghans because it is a NATO occupied country. If NATO cant or is unwilling to do its job, then get out and let natural social evolution take place, and these problems will slowly disappear.

what, it is pc in both countries, why?
i am not defending nato, so don't even go there. the wolves were the wolves before nato got there. the occupying country has to be responsible for upholding the law of the land even when there is a 'so called' government?
i just like to hold the people resposible for crimes, responsible, instead of the buck always being passed to others.

Because Dang is not a real word, so you cant say its a curse word.

But the wolves were not in power. NATO put them in power and keeping them in power. If there was no resistance to the government, then I would say the government is doing all it can for the people. But there is a violent insurgency which tells me this is not the right government for its people. The people in power are the same people that destroyed afghanistan from 92-96. Who would want them. Maybe we should have these people run australia, then you can see how wonderful they are. Dang it.
