Just read through this thread. But failed to make out what exactly is this thing that you all term "Bacha Bazi". I couldn't see the videos but it seems it is related to sodomy of teen/preteen boys. That is all I could gather.

Can anyone please elaborate what this problem is exactly, and what are the hurdles the society is facing in culminating it?
The video has five parts. It is a Frontline documentary about this sick crime, if you watch it you would understand everything about this sick practice. The problem is that the crimes are not prosecuted because the officials are in involved in these crimes and their is no punishment. But besides these crimes, rapes are also unpunished because again the officials are involved.

When you have corrupt government, and crimes are unpunished, eventually the people are going to rise up and overthrow the government. When I say NATO is responsible for this, it is because NATO created and is protecting the corrupt government that lets criminals prey on defenseless civilians.

So, in essence you are implying that this is a very powerful government with 100% control over everything that goes in Afghanistan? If NATO's objective were to keep alive the tradition of Bacha Bazi, this practice would've been legalized already. Your argument, at most, is laughable.

I will get back to this next month but all i have to say is its not, what it seems like, and if it is, then indeed A practice of sickness. Should be put to death, its the only cure. In the long run educate the people, and teach about people Islam, cause that's two things our people lack.

            Nick,
I look forward to your valuable analysis.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

No problem brother. Next month I shell come up something related to this practice in details. I was looking for an answer some time, specially been researching since 2004 and 05 and I have some info that can help people see it from a different prospective.

It does not matter if it is powerful or not. Where they do have reach and authority, they are not punishing the criminals. If it is not punished, who cares if it is legal in the books or not.
If you see the frontline video, you can see that videos of this practice is sold in the streets freely.

What is laughable is NATO's handling of Afghanistan.
                opium sales all time high.
                government corruption all time high.
civilians being killed all time high.
bach bazii crimes all time high.
                democratic election, filled with fraud.
war criminals in parliament, all time high.
I can go on and on but your ignorance will not be able to fathom the facts.

                    I saw the video.

And yes the administration's work does not shine the way you want it to. But the way you are trying so hard to link its administrative failures as the main cause of Bacha Bazi, is very wrong. Your posts appear to make the statement that it is the NATO that brought in the practice of Bacha Bazi.

Your government is not God that would snap and all the problems would disappear in a flash. Give it some time, and stop portraying the government as the reason behind rise in Bacha Bazi.

In fact, if it happened per the government's intent, then you won't be able to see this video at all.

When did I say that NATO brought this practice in?

I'm saying that if the authority is not doing anything about it and actually has people on the payroll that are involved in this practice, then they are directly responsible for the crimes occurring.
I know no one can completely eliminate it, but they can surely reduce it.

Please read my post again. I did not say that. I specifically said, "Your posts appear to make the statement..."

And here's that post of yours...

^^You are clearly undermining the intent of NATO and the government here. You might want to be a little more politically correct when you allege something so serious.

Have you ever thought that the incidences of Bacha Bazi appear to be on the rise simply because it is getting investigated and reported more than before? I did not know of this practice before today - does it mean it did not exist? I remember in the 80s people used to say more incidences of rape take place in the US than in India (or any other third world country). But they never said how many incidences in these poor countries go unreported. Don't you think that because it is getting reported more now, with greater freedom to the media, that you are mistaking for a rise in such incidents? If not, then do you have the data with which we can compare the credibility of your allegations?

The frontline documentary video has answers to all your questions. It says before the NATO invasion, this practice was almost non existant because the criminals were punished by the authority.
Today the criminals are not only not punished but protected and on the payroll by the authority, this is happening in NATO controlled areas and not in Taliban controlled areas. I am merely listing reasons why NATO is losing the war for hearts and minds. The afghan people are not stupid, they are well aware of whats going on.

I think you should watch the whole documentary before you post about it.
