      ^Valuable observation.
It was like that with the Soviet era militias too.
THEY TOO used this same strategy of arming militias toward the end of THEIR
      stay in Afgh.
      With very little success.

What on earth is in the minds of NATO planners?
They can't study even 2-30 years back ?
& learn from the colossal goofs of the Shuravi ?!

Thanks Idiot - nice to see you back in your original form -
      for explaining the nuances here.
Can't wait to watch this now.

These militias are dangerous, and should be disbanded.

Not gona happen, if anything they are pouring more money into them.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The village-level fighting forces the U.S. is fostering in hopes of countering the Taliban insurgency — the concept that turned the tide of the Iraq war — are having a rocky start, with complaints that recruits are not consistently vetted for ties to criminals and warlords.

The Associated Press talked to elders, police officials and community leaders from 12 of the first 25 districts in the Afghan Local Police program and found reactions ranging from glowing praise to condemnation and fear, suggesting that promised safeguards aren't always applied.

The U.S. hopes the nascent project will spark uprisings against the Taliban akin to the Sunni Awakening in Iraq, in which private militias rose up against al-Qaida.

But the ALP initiative has stirred worries it will legitimize existing private militias, or create new ones. Warlord-led militias ravaged Afghanistan in the 1990s, opening the way for the Taliban takeover.

President Hamid Karzai only agreed to support the program after thwarting several earlier U.S.-backed plans that he said threatened his government's authority. The ALP is supposed to be more accountable, and NATO officials say Karzai is considering more than doubling the recruitment target to 20,400 to accommodate all the districts approved for the force. About 2,000 Afghans are already enrolled.

He is such a creep that "governor" - what kind of people do they choose
and ...WHY, one is bound to wonder ?

Scary how he reacted to the pics as well as make rude threats about the
              new captive.
is it just talk I wonder
              or is this governor serious?
              UGH, what a disgusting individual.
              Even shows in his appearance.

It's funny how the narrator mad it seem like it was all a joke. I don't see how it's funny, when your being interrogating and a big ogre is talking about ****ing your mom, and how hot you are.

That's what I failed to understand too!

[Are you saying that the narrator was making it sound
that the gov. was turning it into a joke?
My impression first was that he was making
weird comments to divert attention away from the captive
to maybe help him be ignored by soldiers.]

But then he says such GROSS stuff -
how could the cameraman even film that disgusting talk?
                  What was the point too?!

I was wondering whether it was to make Pashtuns look
                  like crude people.

The whole sequence was WEIRD. WHY did they film that,
                  anyway ?!

I don't even think he is Kandari, yet alone a Pashtun. I belief they say that the governer knows some basic Pashto, enough to interrogate suspects.

It wasn't interrogation, more like a perverted gay man

I remember that part. Theirs so many things wrong with this short clip. A little girl scared a soldier, how the little girl feel, when see sees the soldiers. Those suspects are probably her older brothers too.

i thought the old afghan man was making a joke to take the heat off the suspect and i assumed his muttering about ...mother and ...in your head was probably directed to the u.s. soldiers. the person making the video was showing how creepy the americans are and the brutish way they invaded the house. as it was an australian, knowing what australians generally think of americans, the comment at the end would have been to show the irony.
