  • Sandwiching Afghanistan is in no One's Benefit.

The long-term conflict has resulted in complete destruction of infra-structures of Afghanistan and has caused loss of lives of more than million of people. Countries in this region especially our neighboring countries have also suffered up to some extent due the constant instability in Afghanistan. Those who do learn from past mistakes are doomed to repeat it. Time has for the regional countries act more responsibly towards Afghanistan. The Afghanistan, India and Pakistan triangle which most of the people say is impossible is the need of time as nothing is impossible. The dispute between India and Pakistan over Kashmir is an entirely different issue to which Afghanistan is not concerned from any angle and therefore it should not suffer losses of any kind due to Kashmir. Insecurity and lingering political and economical instability and vagueness is not in favor of the world specifically our neighboring and closely located countries. The deep and extremely friendly relations between Afghanistan and India can not be denied. At the same the commonalities of Afghans and Pakistanis from border to culture, language and religion is the greatest fact. Therefore Pakistan and India have to set aside their own disputes in the matters pertaining to reconstruction and stability of Afghanistan. Afghanistan is also suffering due the enmity between Iran and USA. Although Iran supported the coalition forces to topple Taliban in 2001, it has been proved that Iran is playing a double game in Afghanistan - by meddling into its internal affairs and supporting and training insurgents against American and other Western forces in Afghanistan. The Iranian government extremely opposes the presence of Western troops in Afghanistan and wants their immediate withdrawal because it fears to see its political rivals so close to its borders. Iran should understand that international community is putting efforts to stabilize the conflicts torn country, Afghanistan and instead of giving hand to extremist it should come forward with sincere assistances and fulfill its responsibilities as a good neighbor because it is always good to be a part of solution than a part of problem. Meanwhile, Iran needs to cooperate with the world on its nuclear issue so that its fears diminish and Iranians start feeling confident about their government. The beneficiaries of any disagreements between the countries in the region and among the countries involved in Afghanistan are the insurgents who try to disrupt the democratic and reconstruction process at any cost. Use of Afghan lands by any country against any other or sandwiching it would only add fuel to the fire.

Who says our "neighboring countries have also suffered up to some extent due the constant instability" ? On contrary they have benefited the most from instability… Pakistan has been cashing the bloods of afghans…billions of dollars are flowing from west...they also get cheap labor and hundreds of millions of dollars from afghan carpet and foreign exchange that relative of afghan refugees send. Iran too benefits from cheap labor...and uninterrupted fallow of water form Hilmand river...recent study by afghan foreign ministery indicated per Hilmand water agreement...Iran owes Afghanistan more then 5 billion dollars. Pakistan too, gets uninterrupted water from Afghanistan…Kabul river, Konar river and…Afghanistan has the most water in region…if Afghanistan has stable gov, create dam and water reservoirs which will have serious problems for Pakistan and Iran. Afghanistan have enough arable land and water…the problem of drought will get reduced if dams are build…we can feed ourselves and all our neighbors.

      Greetings Parsiwaan,

Out of curiosity, can you please find me the source that shows Iran might owe Afghanistan billions of dollars. I would really appreciate it.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

The study was done by Polish and German engineer commission by Afghan foreign minstery under Dr Spanta, the result has not been published public due to Karzia sensitively to Iran. I was informed by a person that worked in foreign minstery and was part of committee to study legal issue of hilland agreement. After conclusion of study few years ago the Iranian were deporting afghans refugees in order to pressurize afghan gov to not make the study public. The German/Polish engineers has also find some serious breach of Hillmand agreement including building a water purification factory by Iran that supplies the gulf state with bottle waters.
Its also suggested the reason Dr Spanta did not win confidence vote from parliament was due to this study.

That's unfortunate. Is there anything being done about it now?
