Nowadays, Afghanistan is on the eve of two highly significant events which one of them, of course, occurred within the bor der, and its implications has trumpeting every political geography, due to its inherent ideological borders, and the next one happened outside of the border, and later globalized and intensively affected the destiny of millions of Afghans by creeping through all the societal and political structures and organizations.
They are the tragic events of Karbala, where Imam Hussain (A.S) and all his staunch supporters were martyred on Mohrram 10, 61 ( H.Q) by the cruel and tyrannical regime of time, led by Yazeed-ibni-Moawiya, and invasion of former Soviet Union or Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R) in 1979.I beg your excuse, comparing these two obvious contrary historic events, which one of them indicates standing against cruelty, rights' usurpation, and injustice, while the other is recognized as callous violation of all domestic laws and international conventions across globe. I do not want to go deep into the history and articulate that what really celebration of Moharram brought for celebrators, and how kings, monarchs and rulers of time behaved with followers of the event.
But the thing which is noteworthy to be noticed is the grisly sufferings imposed on civilians by autocratic rulers, because of the celebration, whom recognized Moharram as obvious challenges for their unfettered power and insatiable desires. The month of Moharram has always pinpointed to a concept, interpretation, and distinctive school of thoughts to restrict autocracy and bring people justice, freedom, equality and fraternity; while the communist ideologue attacked Afghanistan, whatever the slogans and chants were or may be there were persons worried about the sufferings of civilians, but in reality they only bought Afghanistan damage and destruction. Moreover, one of these events always has been worrisome and irksome issue for rulers, and the next neglected the religious sensitivities and distorted into worrisome and irksome issue for civilians.
Finally, they have different origins; one is religion-based thought and next one is anti-religion or anti-metaphysical school. Considering all contradictory differences, one may argue that what is the similarity than? The similarity among them is the "sufferings" of civilians. No doubt, Moharram is celebrated to fight for freedom and justice, while the invasion of Soviet Union imposed sufferings, but, finally as historian indicates, civilians' sufferings prolonged and victims were multiplied on both accounts.
The invasion of former Soviet Union on December 24, 1979, equal to Chaddi 6, 1358, is a landmark in the history of Afghanistan. Around 11,000 armored forces of Soviet Union marched into the country and soon after they occupied the presidential palace and killed Mr. Hafizullah Amin, head of communist branch of Khalq (people) with his family members. The sound of tanks' rolling into streets of Kabul along with terrifying sounds of mortar-artilleries, along with flush of lights of explosion, blending with pitch-dark smokes, reflected into the sky, and, with no doubt, that situation was signaling the "cross of evil spirit" from this part of the world. Was this newborn baby, the evil spirit, the result of political sex between, occurred due to emergency situation, between Islamic fundamentalism and capitalism savage against their shared enemy, Marxist ideology with Sovietian imperialistic feature? Or it emerged due to the clash of bi-polar world, backed with pro and anti market system.
But the thing which nobody doubts is the cross of this evil spirit. The 110 thousand of U.S.S.R. armored forces were in constant war to underpin the basis of Afghan communist revolutionary regime and bring peace and stability after the destructive political chaos broke out, first by Sardar Dawood Khan, who came to power in coup against king Zahir Shah, due to his staunch support from creation of Pashtunistan along border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and later by phobia-like activities of Hafizullah Amin during his hundred days rule. But after almost ten years of constant fight, at last while retreating back, around 16,000 Russian troops were not among their fellows, and Afghan causalities curve hit the height, reportedly, around one million people were killed and around three other millions injured, disabled, and left country for seeking asylum beyond border.
The Soviet Union left Afghanistan along with million of Afghan immigrants, but the thing, which settled and became familiar with bloody soil and icy weather of winter, was "the war itself". War creep onward and still is continuing, with no immediate ending prospective. All countries proclaimed their independence after the collapse of soviet union in 1992, have pushed ahead for reconstruction, development, economic relief, technological advancement, and pluralistic forms of political system, but, oh! War in Afghanistan perpetuated.
The demand for weapon remained high than supply. The continuation of war and political chaos after the retreat of Soviet Union forces raised doubts and obsessing questions about the true entity of war. Needless to say, the United States of America with Muslim countries were the main supporters of Jihad against communism. Exploiting the religious sensitivities and religiosity of Afghans, countries were behind scenario that the feelings of retaliation, control of political strategy, economic interests were far beyond the feelings of humanity, human rights, democratic values, human values, and religion itself. For them it was fight for market domination and revenge, not really jihad against an anti-religious ideology, as Afghans had.
Non-existence of shared enemy was the start of divergence between these political couples. And worst, the injection of those radical and fundamentalist thoughts by these couples, with constant nursing by Islamic madrasas, shifted these sporadic theories into a full structured establishment. Obviously, the headquarters were, so-called Islamic militants, set up outside as well as inside of Afghanistan. With having ideological supporters or a virtual ground, the relish for a real ground or headquarter emerged among the supporters. The political vacuum which broke out after retreating of soviet troops provided a good opportunity for development and expansion of this establishment.
Therefore, exploiting the situation, depending on its foreign backers, they established the most tyrannical extremist religion government that deprived civilians from their basic humanitarian rights. Presently, this simmering and extremist ideology is recognized as a danger to not only Afghanistan and Pakistan, not only to region, but the whole world.
