luffy these were the old names of the area that were changed to this by the great ancestors the air line is still called aryana and few other places like hotels resturants

Also, just because there are other ethnic groups that are proud of being Afghan nationals doesn't mean Pashtuns have lost their historical title of being an "Afghan". Even the person who engineered the name of "Pakistan" referred to you as an Afghan. He referred to your tribe along with the rest as Afghan tribes. Nobody is asking anyone to swallow the word Afghan, but you and others can't hide from history. By getting rid of the word Afghan from your life, you get rid of most of your own history. I mean, feel free to refer to yourself as Chinese, as I certainly don't care but to say Pashtun and Afghan all of a sudden can't be used interchangeably sort of makes me smirk. Considering the fact that I have witnessed PKMAP and ANP members all referring to themselves as Afghan.

Yes you are right that you aren't an Afghan citizen, If that's what you meant, you have a point.

        Nonsense.

          That's what agent provacetuors do.

And what's up with this "aryana" being tied with Afghanistan, that is an Iranian and Persian name, not Pashtun, afghan.

overall thers a good debate goin on here, however if you look at this thread from outside its easy to see that the name afghanistan is an insult to non pashtuns in afghanistan (which is a massive percentage), if i was a tajik, uzbek, hazara, farsi and someone labeld me as a pashtun (afghan) i wouldnt be happy

              You are right.

You have the potential of leading the pashtun tribe with your cleverness

68% of Afghanistan is non pashtun.

              The name is not netrual

It should be either Khorasan, its histocial name meaning the land of the sun rise or Khawaran, The East, as iqbal used in his poems

I am against Aryana coz that would be still not neutral to Uzbeks, Hazaras and Turkmens altogether making aroud 30% of the population

And while we sit here and the extend of our boredom has reached the point that we are now thinking of renaming our home country because we seemingly have nothing else to worry about anymore, people in that very home country are starving, are murdered, are kidnapped.

As long as there are children in Afghanistan/Pashtunkhoa who do not know how to read or write the name of the country they live in, the naming of the country is irrelevant. We should worry about more important things such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and economical, societal and political independence rather than something as banal as the naming of a country. No one who sincerely is concerned for Afghanistan's well-being would be sitting there and worry about the country's name when there clearly is more meaningful things to worry about.

Actually renaming is pretty good idea, it will lessen pashtun monopoly over afghanistan. Afghanistan main problem is ethnic conflicts, inter-ethnic harmony is necessary for peace and stability in country, after that one can think about progress and development.

Inter-ethnic harmony is not stimulated by your calls for denying Non-Pashtuns of the title Afghan. Whether or not you wish to accept it, from Tajiks to Aimaak, all those people are Afghans and Afghanistan is their country. And not only have they fought for Afghanistan, it's name, it's honor and it's prosperity but so have their forefathers. You and I are hence in absolutely no position to sit here and impose on them your views of how they shall become Khorasanis over night.

Ethnic conflicts that you mention are stimulated by internet soldiers who call for Khorasan, Aryana and Pashtunistan in a country that is screaming for water, food and peace.

OK tajiks, hazaras, turkmens, uzbeks are afghans...what are the pashtuns of pakistan?

Pashtuns should respect distinguished identity of each ethnicity. If name of pakistan is changed to punjabistan and punjabis start insisting that pashtuns are punjabis then what would be our reaction and feelings, you can imagine it.

Well, when has afghanistan ever had water, food, and peace? It has always relief upon invading others to provide for food and water, therein by never having peace. It's not specific to afghanistanis, this is the case for all people in barren land that are unable to provide for themselves. Case in point the arabs, turks (in the past, now it's all good since they conquered the fertile anatolia), and mongols.

Serious question for Afghanistanis, why is Khurasan objectionable? It will take you out of the pashtun/afghan and nation-state paradigm and give all in afghanistan and the region a name to look up to.

The Afghans to whom you are defending are not concerned for Pashtun unity, they are mainly concerned for Kandahar and Spreading Taliban ideology across the globe.

They could not care less for a Unified Pashtun state.
actually my cousins back home who are engineers have all said that alot of pakhtunkwa people are in afghanistan now working in construction in kandahar kabul and other provinces .

And this is why our very own Tajik PF'er[Khidr]is now opposing many fundamental concepts of Afghanistan. I believe he even went as far as saying he refuses to be called an Afghan, since Afghan means Pashtun. I think he said that somewhere, It could have been another Tajik. I'm not exactly sure since we have so many Punjabis and Tajiks in our community here.

Is it April fools day already? How in the world did you assume that Pashtun account for a mere 32percent of the Afghan population? Would you like to me kindly, and respectfully debunk your nonsense with authoratative sources that conclude that Pashtuns are more than you, and by far a majority? I would like to initiate my conversation by saying this whole statistics nonsense is a useless discussion, and quite frankly, it's futile to say the least. However, If you are desperate and want to go that route, I have no problem with educating you on statistics. Nearly every source in the world shows that there are more Pashtuns than Tajiks, unless the source is fake. In a professional discussion like this, we use authoritative sources, not blogs.
                                The name is not netrual

Good luck changing a name that my forefathers fought to defend. You will have an army of millions opposing you, and with all due respect, this whole name-changing is nothing but a fantasy. It's just not a plausible concept. Spend your time more productively, help your people in the North. Don't waste your time trying to change the military ranks from Pashto to Dari, or by changing the Anthem from Pashto to Dari. It's just not going to happen. Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmens and every ethnic group in the world is welcomed in Afghanistan. We love peace, and we will treat everyone equally.

                                Caveat:
You must recognize something very important. Despite us loving all ethnic groups, refrain from being greedy. If you are a Tajik nationalist, feel free to visit your Tajikistan. You already have a nation after your ethnic group. If you are a Uzbek, feel free to visit Uzbekistan, you already have a nation under that name as well. Afghanistan, founded by a Pashtun, is the Pashtun equivalent of Tajikistan. It literally means the land of Afghans/Pashtuns. However, we aren't chauvinists either, nor are we suffering from superiority complex. We welcome you, come visit us and we will do what we can to give you a nice meal. Our culture teaches us to be tolerant, and hospitable. We welcome everybody to live with us. However, greediness can do wonders, and I am aware of that. You are our brother, and we want you to live with us. We aren't archenemies with Punjabis or Tajiks.

We respect Tajiks, Uzbeks and Punjabis, and we expect the same treatment. We show love to Punjabis and Tajiks, and we expect love back. However, play us and attempt to deceive us, and expect hell on earth. History can attest for what I just stated. :-)

No, no! You Mossad agent. How dare you say you love Afghanistan? How dare you? We must focus on important issues such as 'Why is Dari spoken more often' or 'Why is the anthem in Pashto' or 'Why is every Afghan president a Pashtun?'

                                How dare you!

Visit Afghanistan, and you will realize this ethnic conflict has been blown out of proportion. Yes discrimination exists, but Pashtuns are not innocent either. Hell, a Punjabi or Hazara can not cross the durrand from or into Afghanistan/Pakistan without paying bribe, while Pashtuns flow freely without any questioning. I remember a Punjabi was once getting a beating because he refused to pay bribe, and he couldn't speak Pashto. Pashtuns from both side do not let them. If you are Hazara or Punjabi, and you want to travel to Kandahar or Quetta, our Pashtuns will charge them 2x the price. So, we aren't angels either. The point is we need to work on unity and we need to strengthen our ties. Tajiks don't really have a hard time traveling to Pakistan since most are from the south, and they probably speak better Pashto than me and you[they were educated in Pashto speaking schools]but Punjabis and Hazaras, due to facial characteristics are spotted from a mile away. Ask anybody who has traveled through the durrand via the Quetta-Kandahar route how non-Pashtuns are treated. Hell, the tribes extend from Kandahar to Quetta and they are extremely organized.

From my opinion, It is spy agencies that are fueling ethnic tensions for their own strategic interests.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
