I think people ar confusing him with that Uzbek Dostum. Massoud wasn't an angel be he wasn't that bad either.

            So what? Dhaal tastes good.

Is it true that eating dhaal makes you smarter? My mom is always saying to eat dhaal like the Indians, because that's what makes them smart.

He was Dostums superior, Masood was the leader of the northern alliance of which dostum and fahim and others were members.

I don't have "personal feelings" for people I don't personally know.

How is "he is a tajik" a personal feeling? What is the implication there? lol

And does any normal human being walk around thinking "I wish so and so was pashtoon".

In "Ghost Wars" American agents and politicians go on the record and tell everyone that out of the billions that got poured into Afghanistan during the war against the Soviets, in the 80s, Masud recieved only $500,000. Which isn't much for running an army.
Masud will be remembered as a great military strategists and an expert at war fare. Of the 1000s of stingers that got sent to Afghanistan, Masud only received 10, and that too at a later stages of the war. But we know how successful he was despite the lack of resources. The Pakistanis did not intend on giving him anything at all... and that $500 K that he got was given to him by the Americans secretly. For it was agreed between the Saudies, the Americans and the Pakistanies that everything would be funneled through Pakistans ISI.
The reason why Masud was killed was because he would not give into foreign intervention. This was the whole reason he took up arms in the first place. He was single minded on this fact. He did not take anything from Pakistanies or Russians or Americans because he didn't want to feel that he would owe anything to any one in the later stages. Like every other great leader in history, alexendar or julius caesar, he was sold out by his own men.
It is not surprising to have his legend be marred by all kinds of fictions. After the onset of civil war most of his loyal men, who had believed in the Jihad, disbanded. In the 90s the only ones who took up arms were the power hungry wolves.
From that period of time, I don't recognize any other afghan leader to have become who he was of his own accord and because of his own merits. All the rest were accidental "heros"...of convenience and for outward and superficial reasons...like race and language. (Sayaf is where he is today because at a meeting with arabs in saudi arabia, he was the only afghan who could speak arabic.) So if Masud were alive today, for sure he would wage war against the US...this much even his rival, gullbudin would acknowledge. The US took him out knowing that and blamed it, as usual, on the "al-cia-duh".
I doubt any of you would have fared any better if you were in his shoes...
