  • An Election Gone Wrong Fuels Tension in Kabul

KABUL, Afghanistan — The inauguration of a new Parliament in just weeks threatens to worsen ethnic tensions and instability and to drive an important part of President Hamid Karzai’s political base into the arms of the insurgency, Afghans and foreign officials warn. ....

The election was riddled with fraud. In ghazni, they closed the election ballot offices early in the pashtun areas guaranteeing hazaras win. These practices will guarantee ethnic tensions and make the country more unstable. The Americans are sending hundreds of Hazara to the states for education and training, sending them back to afghansitan to handle the administering of the country. The US is funding and training the Hazaras to administer the country marginalizing the pashtuns.

      Khushal,
Why would you think the US wants to marginalize the Pashtuns?

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I dont know Admin, But a friend told me that american airline flights that go directly to Bamyan, load up Hazaras and bring them to the US, educate them, train them and send them back to Bamyan and to Kabul. Thats why we see majority Hazara of male and female fighter pilots for the afghan air force

Reasons for marginalizing the pashtuns, One theoory is that
pashtuns can not be trusted or easily controlled, The soviets did not marginalize the pashtuns and they failed. I beleive the US dont want to repeat the same mistake and want to try a different approach.
therefore put the minority in power because the minority is easily controlled as long as they depend on the US for funding and training, Lose the funding and training and they will lose power to the majority. Both parties depend on each other.

This is obviously because Pashtuns refuse to cooperate. People have told me the US begs Pashtuns to join, but they all politely decline and resist.

I think the primary concern is that Pashtuns can't be subdued, and they hate being told what to do. The US wants to control the Pashtuns, but the Pashtuns refuse to bow down and be a ghulaam. Do you not think the US wants the Pashtuns to be part of the ANA? It's the Pashtuns who refuse to join ANA, it's not the ANA who is discriminating against them.

Its hard to say that the US really wants the pshtuns to join the army because the system they have in place now doesnt really have any incentive for the average pashtun to join. There are no pashtun officers. You have to create an army that represent the population equally. If you have majority tajik and hazara officers, the pashtun is not going to really take orders from them. Most of those officers speak Dari and you need pashtun officers that speak pashto for pashtun soldiers.

Ive talked to pashtuns that joined the ANA and they fled because they said they were not being paid, the commanders didnt speak pashto and were stealing the money intended for the soldiers. Some of the things they had to do was go on night raids and said that their conscience did not agree with it. They have said that NATO soldiers have no respect for the culture and did not listen to them when they objected to certain actions. There was no motivation to fight when you are being ordered by a foreigner to shoot at your own people.

Even the system to train the ANA isnt designed to work,
Some of the commanders have said that The US trainers tell them one thing for 6 months, then Itialians are training them and they have a different command structure and then the German come and they tell them forget what the itialians have said and this is how you should do things. So they are being confused. Many ANA soldiers sell their ammo and guns to the taliban for money.
