TNC condemns terror attack in Bajaur Agency
* Says tribal people want army action against terrorists
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: The Tribal NGOs Consortium (TNC) has strongly condemned the worst act of terrorism against the innocent people of Bajaur Agency, in which more than 50 people were killed and dozens seriously wounded.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the TNC said that more than 10 million people of FATA were like hostages between terrorists and the military, while over two-third of them had been compelled to leave their native homes. Those who were still there were at the mercy of terrorists, it added.
It said that the suicide attack in Bajaur Agency and the attacks on mosques and jirgas in other agencies proved that terrorists had been hiding and operating there.
“Terrorists are the enemies of humanity. The tribal people want a military action against them. But they, at times, become suspicious about such operations and think that fake and ineffective military offensive are not a solution to the real problem,” it said, adding that the tribal people wanted an operation that should be precise and against terrorists.
The TNC demanded of the government to announce extension of the Political Parties Act, representation in the provincial assembly and abolition of collective responsibility clause from the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in the Tribal Areas.
It also asked the World Food Programme (WFP) not to discontinue its food distribution and relief operation in FATA, saying the interruption would affect the innocent people who were already in trouble and need of food.
