I tend to call Pakistan "Messervy-stan", since the army rules the country - in alliance with a feudal elite - and the first head of the Pakistan army was Frank Messervy, an Englishman, who I doubt ever said:

"Pakistan kya matlab hai? La ilaha illa Allah"

Translation: Urdu for "What is the purpose of Pakistan? There is no god but Allah" used to present Pakistan as a state for Islam.

No it isn't, and neither is Afghanistan.

I tend to side towards to Qutibist interpretation of what an Islamic country should be. One that enforces Shariah.

That isn't to say there aren't Muslims in Pakistan or Afg, but that the way the nations are governed are not Islamic.

b: I have personally read myself an account of an ex-Khudai khidmatagar a few years ago resident in East Pakistan who joined the Mukti Bahini.

c: The then Pakhtunkhwa government in the form of NWFP leader, Wali Khan supported Bengalis including going out in the streets and demonstrating against the genocide. Wali Khan (rahmatullahi alaih) himself rescued a Bengali diplomat's son.

If Pakhtunkhwa had also recieved military support in 1971 from Afghanistan and won its freedom we would now be saying "Pakhtunkhwa supported Bangladesh", since a country's stance is based on the policies of its leader.

pakistan's version of islam is a very special, maybe unique version os islam. it is perhaps one of the most extreme version. one special feature of pkistni islam is 'do as i say, not as i do'.
yes, deobandi, brelvis, sufis, shrines, a pinch of bida's here and there, but most of all people say, 'we are muslim' with such conviction that the very same conviction has no substantiating feature. too much religious history, hnduism, budhism, sikhism, all have added something into this primordial soup.

you know there are original products in the world, then there are very good copies, then bad copies, then really shiz quality copies, then there are chinese copies, malaysian copies, korean copies, then, then come the pakistini copy number 1, pkstini copy number 2 etc. (first hing i learnt when we left surobi and headed for peshawar back in the days) cellotape here, a bit of glue here, a bit of sand and spit, hold it together and then you have pkistini version.
