The FM radio station is funded by the Mahmood Bacha Business Company in Kandahar, according to the head of the company, Hajji Bacha. His intention is to have a 'common sense' broadcast aimed at the people and development of Afghan culture.
The Wranga radio manager, Mohammad Ibrahim Speasaly, said that the station will support 15 hours a day of broadcasting, which can be received in Kandahar City and some outlying districts. He added that programs will be entertainment-based, then gradually add broadcasts that will play an effective role in education and improvement of the local community.
Residents of Kandahar City showed their support for Wranga, but criticize the 'pop' programs that are being broadcast, saying popular music and live call-in programs are a waste of time when there is a great need for educational media.
Currently there are a governmental radio and television station operating in Kandahar, one private television station, 'Hewad-TV', and four private radio stations (Afghan Independent Radio, Keled Radio, Talim Al Islam Radio and Wranga Radio).
