Today at the 16th Asian Games, currently being held in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, Nesar Ahmad Bahawi grabbed Afghanistan’s first medal. He received a silver medal in the Men’s Under 80 kg in Taekwondo. This is an improvement for Bahawi since in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, he received a bronze medal. Nabil Hassan of Jordan narrowly beat him to claim the gold medal. “After four years of working hard, I made it to the final. I’m really happy,” Behawi told AFP, when he reached the final against Hassan. “All my family and friends are praying for me. I fight for them, for my people and my country.” As there are still many days of competitions left, Afghan sports fans are hoping their athletes pick up some more medals in martial arts and in cricket, which has become very popular in Afghanistan in recent years.

8 replies in the thread where we won a trophy and 5 pages on the one where the wrong song was played. we afghans sure know our priorities well..
may be if there were enough pashto speaking players they could convince them to play a pashto song.
"wrong song was played" whine whine** i am sure if a pashto song had been played the non pashto speaking afghans would be whining just like you people are now. it would have been nice if the national anthem was played instead but it's not the end of the world otherwise.
you pitiful gutter minded afghans will always remain the same. your stupid ego is taking away from you the pride you should be feeling for your country. as for me, it's a win win situation. sucks to be the rest of you.

This isn't about a song, it's about an anthem. Our national anthem was not played. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with personal preference, It's the national anthem which happens to be in Pashto. All the other countries played their anthems but when it was our turn, they played a patriotic song. Imagine someone playing a patriotic Indian song in a American baseball game where the American anthem is usually played.
A national anthem does not change everyday nor does it have any correlation with what ethnic group the team is. If the entire team is Hazara or the Tajik the bottom line is they must adhere to the Afghan constitution. Just because there are no Pashtuns on the team, does not mean they can change the anthem. Such logic is flawed and full of fallacies. Just because the New York Yankees has a bunch of Dominicans does not mean they can play the national anthem for Dominican Republic in a baseball game in The Bronx.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

that is what the point of the national anthem is. something that represents every one...it was clearly inconsiderate of them. what are you going to do about it? sit back and cry? i am sure they will have to answer to some one.Originally posted by Admin Khan View PostDaZahroJaam,

The Olympic team playing the national anthem is not a 'courtesy' nor is it them being 'considerate'. It's what should have happened, but unfortunately it did not happen. This is why members are posting their frustrations. Not everyone is happy when their language and heritage is under constant threat. This is just as wrong as when a Pashtun says only Pashto is the language of Afghanistan. The chairman of the Olympic committee was wrong for what he did, and quite obviously his intentions were malicious. With that being said, I hope the Afghan government does something about it. This is an insult to all Pashto speakers. We shouldn't blame all Tajiks or Uzbeks about this. However, this is clearly evidence that there are people in those ethnic groups which are against us.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam View Postthat is what the point of the national anthem is. something that represents every one...it was clearly inconsiderate of them.
We are going to constructively criticize what has happened, and we might also voice our concerns to show our distaste.what are you going to do about it? sit back and cry? i am sure they will have to answer to some one.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

well i don't see any body else looking at it that way. every body else here is on the brink of committing suicide because a farsi song was played.

Farsi is a beautiful language. Anyone who is against German, Farsi, French, English, or any other language is the dumbest person in the world. We should learn as many language as possible. I have posted my stance on the linguistic issue many times. However, anyone, whether it be a Punjabi, Farsiwan or a Englishman, who wishes to eradicate and consistently works to extinct my language can expect a fierce response from not only me, but from my entire ethnic group. We have nothing against any language but we do have a problem with anyone who wishes to work against our language and culture. I will respect their Farsi, French and German, as long they respect my language. Even if they refuse to recognize or respect my language, I don't mind discussing with that person to find out the underlying concern behind his or her objections. We don't have to be violent about everything. Afghanistan according to various sources is Pashtun majority, which means we have a right when we ask our fellow respected ethnic groups to respect our language. We recognize Dari and Qataghani and they must recognize our Pashto and Attan. Playing a patriotic song instead of our national anthem is an insult and it shows their animosity towards Pashto. Who is "they"? not the entire ethnic group, but those corrupt officials and citizens that wish to see us fail and miserable. Anyone who expects us to be 'calm' about such an issue, has clearly lost their mind.Originally posted by DaZahroJaam View Postwell i don't see any body else looking at it that way. every body else here is on the brink of committing suicide because a farsi song was played.

There was no need of anthem. An them is played when the players are standing still their hands on their chests. They were simply marching and there was a need for a patriotic song to be played. I think the song played "Watan Ishq e tu iftekharam" is way much better than the American imposed anthem.
PashunQueen,
Live with it. 60% of afg is non pashtun

In Afghanistan today it is pashtun rulers who are trying to exterminate farsi language altogether and forcefully pashtunize afghanistan. If it was about eqaul competition and rights as language thats fine with farsi coz farsi has lived out Arabs, mongols, Brits, Russians and still there is as a lanugage.
But banning people from speaking their language, fining thme for not using pashto phrases in their own language, what sort of justice do you think that is.
This is what goes in Afghanistan. Pahto is out to exterminate Farsi (By pashto i mean Afghan mellat party and it's ideologists, not all pashtuns)
The case in Pakistan maybe different, there pashtu maybe the victim.
