Khost education officials distribute more than 650,000 books

One of the biggest ways to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for Afghanistan is to ensure that children get a good education. That is what the education department of Khost province has helped do in recent weeks by distributing 672,542 books to thousands of students in the 1st through 12th grades.

Education department spokesman Sayed Mosa Majroh said that the books are all newly printed and are being distributed nationally by the Ministry of Education.

Khost is a province that takes education seriously. There are approximately 225 schools with roughly 166,600 students, 40,000 of which are female. The students are taught by about 5,000 teachers, which means students enjoy a ratio of one teacher for every 33 students.

The recipients of the books are very happy with the progress made in education in their province.

Shayza, an 8th-grade student at the Bebe Halima girls’ high school, said: “I am pleased to get new books. I hope most of our problems will now be solved.”Her classmate, Tamana, agreed: “I am proud of my government for accomplishing this. We don’t have any problems in accommodation now. We have beautiful buildings for schools, enough teachers, and now the government solved our problem of (not) having enough books.”
