  • Newly built school in Kunar Province

ASADABAD: A newly-constructed building for a school has been inaugurated in the Narai district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Friday.
The double-storey building constructed in the Jaba area had 10 classrooms and four administrative rooms, a solar power system, tables and chairs, education director, Syed Jamaluddin Hussaini, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The project, which took one year to complete, cost $262,000 provided by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).
The building had the capacity of housing 300 students at a time, the official said.
Nearly 560 male and female students have been studying in the school in two shifts.
The education director said 400 schools were operational in the province, where 126 schools had buildings and the construction of another 62 school buildings was in progress.
More than 135,000 students, 50 percent of them females, are enrolled in those schools.
Narai district is about 80 kilometres from provincial capital, Asadabad.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
