Japan grants U$$ 89,378 for provision of safe drinking water at Ossay, Khyber Agency, FATA
ISLAMABAD: The Government of Japan has decided to grant financial support of U$$ 89,378 (approx Rs.7.44 million) to the learning awareness and motivation programme (LAMP), a non-governmental organization for the provision of safe drinking water at Ossay, Khyber agency, FATA.
The agreement for the project was signed on Friday, 24th September at the Japanese Ambassador residence in Islamabad between Chihiro Atsumi Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Nawabzada Fazal Karim Afridi,Chief Executive of the LAMP
The grant will be utilized for digging a well of 200 meters depth and the construction of a water supply system in Ossay, which is remotely located from the nearest water source, through this project, women and girls in the area will be eased from hard labor of fetching water that takes about four hours every day. The clean water will also prevent the people in the area from contraction diseases caused by polluted water.
This project is expected to improve the living and sanitary conditions of about 12,600 residents (1800 household) in Ossay as well as that of about 6,000 residents in the surrounding area who would take water from this well by truckage.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Atsumi stressed that improving the water supply system and sanitation is one of the priorities in Japan assistance policy toward Pakistan and that Japan consider it vital to assist the development of FATA in light of its importance for peace and stability in the region.
He also emphasized that this project would contribute to further strengthing the existing friendly relation between the people of Japan and Pakistan
