  • Samangan to get $1 million for reconstruction

A senior Afghan police commander in the north has promised that one million US dollars would be given to northern Samangan for reconstruction and development projects in the province.
General Daud Daud, Commander of 303rd Pamir Police Headquarters in the north paid a visit to the province on Monday where he met provincial officials in capital, Aibak.
He said the September 18 parliamentary election in the province passed-off "peacefully and transparently". He thanked Afghan security forces for maintaining security of polling sites during the entire day.
He said that he had asked some friend countries and donor agencies to help the northern zone of the country for their successful completion of election process. The share of Samangan is $1 million, he said, asking the provincial authority to arrange and prioritize their development schemes as soon as possible. He hoped that the assistance would help strengthen peace in the province.
General Daud also awarded 35 police officers in Samangan police headquarters with appreciation letters.
Also in Samangan, construction work on a headwork launched on Monday.
The headwork is expected to fulfill the water needs of 2,500 families and will irrigate 2,250 acres of farmland.
Irrigation director of the province, Engineer Muhammad Rassoul said that the headwork would be built on a canal in Shahri Kohna area of Aibak, the provincial capital.
The World Bank funded project would cost more than seven million afghanis and would take four months to complete, the official said.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
