  • Herat : Plan to bring international flights to Herat underway

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation announced yesterday that they will increase the length of Herat Airport’s runway from 2,500 meters to 3,000 meters so that larger aircraft can be accommodated. The larger runway will allow for international passenger and cargo flights to operate out of Herat. The time planned for this project is 3 months.

As a result of this upgrade, passengers traveling from Herat will no longer need to make connections to international flights in Kabul, Kandahar or Mazar-e Sharif. Once completed, the project will further increase economic growth in western Afghanistan.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

It should be coming soon now. Do you reside in Herat?

Admin khana dont be too formal :P

the airport lacks everything you need a place to be called airport.
there are like 50 camps of Americans, Spanish and Italians but nothing for the airport it self.
No terminal or waiting hall at all.

Kabul airport is a different story, the new building was designed and constructed by the Japanese. It's beautiful, it's better than any of the Pakistani airports....the staff was also a little professional.

Are there any pics of Herat airport or others, just out of curiosity?
                            In addition to Kabul.
that would be fun to see, because I never ever flew into the country.
[only by mountain traversing in the old days]
