  • Master plans of 7 big cities being assessed: minister

    ByNavid Ahmad Barekzai On Jun 30, 2016 - 15:50
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) on Thursday said it was assessing master plans of seven big cities including capital Kabul for standardization.

MoUD Minister Sayed Mansoor Saadat Naderi told a press conference here that 2016 was a year of action for MoUD to build residences, generate jobs, improve economy and bring positive changes to cities as a high priority.

He said the master plans of Kabul, Kunduz, Mazar-i-Sharif, Herat, Kandahar, Khost and Jalalabad cities had been created 30 years ago and were being assessed in order to bring them into harmony with contemporary needs.

Many people during the last 15 years chose to live in cities, but the current master plans were out of date to meet today’s standards, he said.

Naderi said his ministry’s technical team had started assessing maps of the cities and would complete the assessment in near future.

About the start of registering unplanned residential buildings in Kabul, he said 70 percent of buildings in the central capital were unplanned and needed to be registered.

The registration of unplanned residential buildings would increase government’s revenue and value of the properties, he said.

I really hope they will hire some profecional city planners and architects. New Afghan buildings and designs are horrible, if they cannot find good architects in Afghanistan they should hire from abroad. Becuase those buildings will stay for another century if not more. And having bad designs and kithcy architecture will do no good.
