The western route is obviously shorter. The shortest theoretical route would be a straight line from Gwadar to Khunjerab pass. That's obviously not logistically possible, so realistically the western route would be the shortest even with it's twists and turns.
We are talking about roads here not windows paint, you can't draw stright line in real world. Difference between eastern and western route is around 60-70km out of 2700km. The shortest route by 250km is one in the middle which will be build later on after western and eastern route are constructed by 2018.

like those sitting in isb give a **** about what is a theoretically shortest route. developing roads in KP Baluchistan is no one priority

Western route isn't short or anything like that, look at the map.

Do you know difference between western and eastern route? While western route roads are being build with Pakistan own resources since 2006 while China is financing Karachi-Lahore motorway. As long as your lovers roam freely forget about foreign investment from China or anyone else. China never wanted to invest a penny in western route.
started changing color? you were saying that roads are not part of cpec? do pakistan have their own resources? lahore karachi motorway is going to eat 60 percent of the total infrastructure amount under cpec. another 35 percent for the upgradation of karakoram highway and other roads on eastern route.

for punjobo like you any infrastructure project in KP and balochistan is like investment in middle of fata. this is your mentality you ****ed up moron. my lover is going to blow every piece of **** on this planet earth and along with their chino friends.

Afghani you was born garbaje picker and will remain garbaje picker. Lahore-Karachi is for internal traffic. The best and shortest route to China from Gwader is in the middle going through Baloch dominated areas before ghandu Achakzai started to cry. Western route through Quetta is barely shorter then much safer eastern route. Once the route in middle is completed then it will become preferable route for traffic going to China from Gwader instead of western and eastern.

If you want investment from China then ask your lovers to stop ****ing you and just die. No one is going to invest in terrorist areas. You should instead worry about Afghanistan which is on brink of disintegration.

I see the problem here. Technically you are right, it is "a longer route". But that's only because it's a bull**** route and there is no desire to build it there.

The problem here is very very simple. Marwat is right. Look, there is no new construction. Just repair work and upgrades to existing infrastructure, which is clearly not made for a trade route to Gwadar (because Karachi has been the port thus far). While I understand the terrain is rugged, this is unfortunately such blatant bias, that if Pakistanis weren't accustomed to unqualified people running the country, as well as the fact that they routinely rip-off their less populous ethnicities, there would rightfully have been an outrage here.

Here's the issue, they could easily have made some construction on a few places and reduced the length of the western route. That is not the case with the eastern route, because it's just not a logical route. The fastest way from point A to point B is a straight line, not a curve (LOL). There is nothing that can be done to speed up the Eastern route... it's just matter of making it less of a curve so that the rip-off isn't as painful.

Here, 2 examples from a non-engineer right now: From Peshawar going South West, it takes a detour to DI Khan, and then another detour to Zhob. Build a road that doesn't need the detour, and can go straight to Zhob (will bypass DI Khan).

Then, build a road from Zhob that goes as straight as possible to Surab, which then connects to the rest and goes to Gwadar. Are you looking at that road? I see why it exists, people want to go to Quetta, and therefore it's there. But for a trade route this makes more sense. It's just an unnecessary curve. I suspect it'll be shorter just with the first modification even.

I guarantee this would save easily 200+ km, more likely 3-400. There's a massive curve within Balochistan for no reason. I get the "western route" is rugged, but this is 2016. We can build roads on rugged terrains no problem.
