  • China's 40 year control of Gwadar Port

China gets 40-year management rights on Pak's Gwadar port, and access to Arabian Sea

Saibal Dasgupta, TNN | Apr 14, 2015, 09.14PM ISTBEIJING: China has won the right to operate Pakistan's Gwadar port, which is believed to have strong military possibilities, for a period of 40 years. The move will give China access to Gulf countries, and the possibility of building a naval base on the Arabian Sea in future, sources said.

Hong Kong-based Pheonix TV quoted Dostain Khan Jamaldini, chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, was quoted as saying the port can be put into full use by 2015 end because the infrastructure construction is nearly complete.

China has both financed and constructed the port because it opens up a route for transporting Middle East oil by a 3,000-km long land route from Gwadar port to Kashgar, the northwestern Chinese city. Oil from the Middle East could be offloaded at Gwadar and transported to China by rail and road, the TV report said

"The past is not my concern. The future is no longer my concern either. One minute. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after nothing. Nothing in comparison to that one minute."

The port would be considered Chinese territory. China has bought Gwadar port for 40 years. In other words, China will now decide which nations can have access to Gwadar port. What has happened is Pakistan essentially sold the port to China for what amounts to not much, considering how much China will benefit, strategically and economically from this port in 40 + years.

It is my opinion that Pakistan will soon sell operational control of Port Qasim to China too LOL

not surprising since US official say that paksitan would sell their mother for a dollar.

It was indeed a sad day in the history of Pakistan when our Federal Finance Munshi (or is it Minister?) Ishaq Dar claimed that his government will be able to

He went on to say "Pakistanis will sell their mothers for a dollar”.
and people like @Azmel want to create another Pakistan.

Some people will never get anything. 40 years is not much for ancient country like Pakistan who's history is 9000 years old starting with Mehrgarh in Balochistan. Chinese president also made this point about how ancient Pakistan is in recent trip.

Musharaf gave control of Gwader port to some Singapur company who wasted 7-8 years without doing anything. While China will build airport, road, railway connecting Gwader to China. Ofcourse after doing all this they would like to control Gwader port for few decades.

Ask your @khushal friend why he have brought plots in Gwader? Why not Kabul

You are making hypothetical claims. You are hoping that China's ownership of Gwadar will end in 40 years? What makes you think the Pakistan regime at that time won't extend it? You can look at history of the Pakistan military/regime and make educated conclusions on what they will and won't do.

For example, for over the last decade, Pakistan gave US/NATO supply routes for war in Afghanistan. Also gave US/NATO the use of airspace. China and Iran have not given NATO supplies, but Pakistan has. India has not given military support to the puppet Kabul regime, but Pakistan did. In fact, Karzai was flown on a Pakistan military chopper from Pakistan to Afghanistan at the start of the US war. The Kabul puppet regime is propped up by Pakistan NATO supply routes. Again, neither China, Iran, and nor India have given US/NATO military support, and the Pakistan military has and still does.

It was Obama's decision for a full US withdrawal from Afghanistan that leads to the end of the use of Pakistan US/NATO supply routes once exit is complete. Pakistan itself did not decide to permanently close the NATO supply route.

Judging from the above facts, it can be concluded that China will own the Gwadar port for as long as they hand out sums of money to Pakistan.

Again you are not making any sense. If Pakistan decide to extend it then so be it. If Gwader is another Dubai or Hong Kong in 40 years then Pak gov may extend it.

Remember Musharaf gave Singapur company 40 years control and look at them now, they didn't even last 8 years. It all depends what China does in Gwader. If they develop it then maybe deal will be extended or most likely Pakistan will take control of Gwader port in 40 years.
