    1. The Pakistan of the 1960s was different to the post-Zia Pakistan of now.

    It was less fundamentalist and East Pakistan produced more for the economy and was a net exporter while west Pakistan was a net importer but stole money from the east to fund the west. Bengalis were around 55-60% of the population but were only "allowed" 15% of government jobs.

    This was colonialism under a different name, but the name of Islam was used to demand Bengali subservience to Punjabis/Pakistanis.

    2. In the 60s East Pakistan/Bangladesh was ahead of countries like Indonesia and Malaysia who are now far far ahead.

    3. Bangladesh was destroyed by the 1971 genocide with the country being destroyed by the Pakistan army as well as intellectuals deliberately being massacred. The Indian army in 1971 also stole from the country after the Pakistanis had been defeated.

    4. However since then Bangladesh has been slowly but steadily recovering and its GDP growth goes up by 1% every decad i.e 4% in the 80s, 5% in the 90s and 6-7% in the past decade or two.

    5. The Bangladeshi economic growth is primarily funded by internal growth and internal industrialists.

    6. However in terms of socio-economics i.e. economics and social issues, Bangladesh is doing far better than Pakistan in HDI (Human Development Indexes) and Pakistan also has a lot of feudalism and slavery, third highest rate of slavery in the world around 2 million slaves.

    7. In the next few decades Bangladesh should overtake Malaysia, Egypt and Saudi and be one of the top 4-5 biggest Muslim economies.

    8. Iran in some ways in terms of education, research and development is the most advanced country in the Muslim world.

      If Pakistan would had remain similar as it was in the 60's and continued so till now.Probably Pakistan by now would had been atleast a GDP of india size or even More,

      Skip the part about Bangladesh

      I believe the bad time is almost over,Ofcourse the situation wil persist for the next 2 years atleast.But i believe the GDP as the growth rate was revised to 4.2% might next year grow close to 5% and the Govt has already planned a growth rate of 7% by 2015-16.

      Pakistan will easily reach 450-500billion dollars by 2020..Even the IMF estimate it to be about 380billion dollars when the average was taken as just 2% in 2010.while we already are growing post 4%

      I was watching a program when they said Pakistan 60% of industries are working on Just 30% capacity,When the Energy will be available,they will go ful or atleast a significant increase which in return will skyrocket our export

      EIA has recently estimated that Pakistan holds more like 60% of the total South asia Shale gas and oil reserves hence the energy future is also safe.ENI is all set to invest 10billion dollars only in Pakistan oil drilling sector

      Pakistan considerting the 180million population,huge resources and a strategic location has nothing to stop from it getting into trillion dollars GDP.

      Noora is very bad at foriegn policy but Extremely Good at economy.you will notice the difference but had to wait atleast 2 years

      Pakistan believed to have record gas, oil reserves - Economic Times

      The reserves estimates are increased from older 51tcf to more than 100tcf.If you check the original site it says that the reserves may be even more,Probably three times of the proven recoverable reserves

      (Total risked reserves in Pakistan are more than 500tcf)

      by this new estimate Pakistan reserves in shale

      Oil=9th largest in the world
      Gas=9-10th largest in the world.

      Pakistan Economy will go skyrocket when these reserves will be extracted

        In Long term I believe just 4 Muslim countries has the capability to go beyond trillion dollars GDP

        Pakistan
        Indonesia
        Iran
        Turkey

        And if i had to add one more than bangladesh.

        Note:By trillions i didnt mean just 1 trillion but atleast 3-5trillion dollars GDP

          1. Turkey has tripled its economy in the past 10 years under the AKP government.

          It will soon have an economy bigger than Spain or Italy, who have the 5th and 4th biggest economies in western Europe respectively.

          2. Indonesia's growth rate has shot up since it abandoned military rule 10 years ago.

          3. Iran if it manages to normalize relations with the west may even outperform Indonesia and Turkey. If it abandons militant Shia fundamentalism and if Wahabism loses its influence in the Sunni world then it may be respected in the wider Muslim world as a model Muslim country as Malaysia was a few years ago even by Arabs.

          4. Bangladesh is improving but has a dysfunctional political system dominated by 2 main parties with "student" wings (i.e. terrorist wings) who bring chaos and destruction. If it can resolve its chronic political instability then it can pass Egypt's GDP.

            The Pakistan informal GDP is said to be in excess of 200billion dollars in Nominal Term.
            If we add them under this govt.the GDP may double by 2020.

One major economic indicator which is gross domestic product (GDP) its growth rate is just 2% percent which is a sign of serious economic situation."

                          Other important part is even Pakistan almost 2times higher GDP than Afghanistan is of no use because we have almost 8 times the population of Afghanistan

                          We need to have GDP atleast comparable to Turkey

                          Pakistan was growing with an average 8% in musharaf era.Me and jaggnijit singh had a long discussion as if pakistan would have now joined the War on terror and had continued growing with 8% average.

                          Me and him agreed to that by now than Pakistan would had 3 times the GDP per capita(in nominal terms) of iran or azerbaijaan.

                          recent studies estimate that pakistan economic loss within the period is 133billion dollars which again is not adjusted with inflation

                          But still i see the future of Pakistan bright because we have PMLN in power which is only good at economics.

                          Pakistan even under this condition has beaten IMF prediction.

                          IMF predicted Pak GDP by 2011 would be 195billion dollars but actually even if you check their own site they have readjusted it to 211billion dollars

                          in 2012 they estimated 216billion dollars but Pak GDP grew upto 231billion dollars

                          in 2013 they predicted 236billion dollars while our GDP is 24.5trillion pkr or roughly 250billion dollars(GDP are always measured by the currency value within the end of FY)

                          my expectation for the next 5 years

                          2014=279billion dollars
                          2015=320billion dollars
                          2016=365billion dollars
                          2017=410billion dolllars
                          2018=450-470billion dollars

                          Pakistan will re adjust the base year somewhere in either 2018 or 2019 which will give a boost of atleast 30% to the informal GDP.

                          so it would be safe to assume that by 2020 Pakistan GDP nominal would be between 550-600billion dollars or part of g20

                          Most important part is Pakistan GDP PPP will hit 1trillion dollars by 2018-19 aswell
