Most of what is rural Eastern provinces like Nuristan, Kunar, Nangarhar and some parts of Laghman are out of control of the central government. They are not all exactly under Taliban control. But they are certainly the most powerful factor there.

I had given up on AlJazeera a long time ago, and there was a video
posted by khushal about the recent history of Afghanistan
which seemed to me straight out of the Western Media Playbook.
There were a few questioners allowed, but only minor characters, such
as villagers interviewed.
Otherwise it was all speeches by Bush [horrible to see that abject liar/cheater
in action - for I never watched him ever] and American officials.
Of course these were used as a counterpoint to the real ituation, but
still the video talked about the killing of we-all-know-who
on May 1 in Pakistan - who in the world would believe THAT ?
Certainly no one in the Middle East would accept the Party Line

So why did Al-Jazeera trot it out so confidently, I wondered ?
