In an effort to build a strong Afghan-Australian business relationship, the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) said that an Afghanistan-Australia Business Council has been formed on Wednesday.
ACCI officials said that the Council will work to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries. The officials believe that the Council will allow the Australian investors to study investment opportunities in Afghanistan and start their business activities in the region.
The Afghanistan-Australia Business Council has been established with the help of four Afghan and Australian businessmen. They will work as officials in the office of the ACCI in Australia.
"Afghanistan's mining and agriculture sectors need huge foreign investments, especially, from those investors who have an experience in these sectors. Australia is one such nation that can play a leading role in the development of the Afghan economy," Head of ACCI, Qurban Ali Haqjo said.
"The purpose of establishing the council is to strengthen the business ties between the two countries," Head of Afghanistan-Australia Business Council, Bashir Kishtyar said.
Meanwhile, the Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Jon Philp promised to provide aid to Afghanistan until 2015.
"Now we are trying to catch-up with what the private sector has done. Australia thinks to stay in Afghanistan for many years and that's why we're establishing some of these relationships now. The Australian Aid Organisation is putting at moment $180 million a year into Afghanistan that will build to $250 Million a year by 2015. This money would be put into agriculture, into education and into better public financial management in the government," Jon Philp said.
Afghanistan-Australia Business Council is the 12th overseas Council of Afghanistan. It is said that Afghanistan and Australia do business worth $11 million with each other every year.
