Afghan President Hamid Karzai has defended Prince Harry over 'crass' comments he made about killing Taliban fighters when he served in Afghanistan.
'Prince Harry is a young man, we do give exits to young men when they make mistakes,' the president said in an interview with ITV News and the Guardian newspaper on Monday.
Harry, who is an Apache helicopter co-pilot gunner, talked of taking Taliban fighters 'out of the game' when he was interviewed last month before he came home from his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.
'Take a life to save a life. That's what we revolve around, I suppose,' the 28-year-old said.
The anti-war activists group Stop the War Coalition said the comments were 'crass' and described the prince as 'arrogant and insensitive'.
Karzai was in Britain to hold trilateral talks with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari and Prime David Cameron.
The president praised Harry's father, Prince Charles, whom he is also to meet on the visit.
'For years, even when I was a student in Simla, I used to read about his dislike of modern architecture and the cement buildings and I entirely agreed with him,' said Karzai.
