Bangladesh helping Pashtuns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
You need to learn to differentiate between a NGO. NGO cant have strategic interests.
Bangladesh merely can afford an influence in its own country, there reach cant come to Afghanistan.
So Lalal, just be thankful that some NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION cares about us.
like i said just because an organization is labeled as an NGO doesn't make it one
governments occasionally use various methods to create an "NGO" then have it act as a sort of ambassador
the reason you can't find a reason why impoverished bangladeshis want to help Afghans and not their fellow bangladeshis is because the reason is likely hidden
they would have you believe this is simply the kindness of bangladeshis when that is doubtful
did you know that throughout history christian missionaries helped the goals of colonization, struck deals with their own european governments to further the goals of imperialism even when this meant violating human rights and participating in the most egregious war crimes? yet many people feel missionaries are simply kindly christains spreading the word of jesus

Lalala, (I hope I didnt miss a L or an A ) -
You are right about Christian missionaries being used by Imperialist countries to enhance their influence. That certainly was the norm in the 16-19th centuries. And may be still happens to an extent.
However, instead of being overly suspicious, why dont you think of reasons that BRAC could have for helping Afghanistan?
3. BRAC will continue to be making a difference to the lives of Pashtuns on both sides of the Durrand Line and contributing to the improvement of the status of women. The Pashtun nationalist parties of the ANP and PMAP have always helped Bengalis historically and we are appreciative of their support and respect.
The uninformed comments of ignorant racist Bengali-haters against Muslim Bangladesh are of no validity or relevance.
4. Bangladesh will continue to its program of economic investment and will start to increase its geo-political influence in both the Muslim bloc and elsewhere.
Bangladesh is aiming to be a digitalized society by 2021 and is making rapid strides on its way to becoming another Asian tiger economy.
The Bangladesh Bank has started setting up 10 000 digital centres for IT-based banking and insurance services, writes The Financial Express.
The initiative focuses on the grassroots level of the country, with the implementation of the plan depending on the good intention of banking and financial institutes. The project will create self-employment for 100 000 unemployed women in three years.
Khalsawarrior, You dont think India has a role in Bangladesh?
Nazia, you have to define what you mean by role in context of the thread topic.
Though I must say that my knowledge about Bangla affairs is limited to second hand info, i.e. from internet forum members I will be glad to share my views.
I think since Bangladesh is an Indian puppet. India might use Bangladesh to reate interests?
Malgariya, the Pakistani state has forever been a lapdog of the Imperialists. Bangladesh is a sovereign state. It has a right to develop relations with India as it deems persuant to its national interests? What are you going to do about this? Create Tehrik ye Taliban ye Bangladesh? Or revive the Al-Badr and Al-Shams?
common sense tells me that India must have Bangaldesh under control due its territorial dispute i.e West Bengal.
Nazia, yes India has a few border disputes with BD. There are firing incidents between the Indian BSF and the BD Rifles as well. Some BD people's stand is that India is trying to throw its weight around and trying to grab BD land. Whereas GoI says that they are frequent smuggling and gun-running activities that are run in connivance with BDR. Moreover, BD objects to India's fencing of the borders, even though India is doing it 50m inside its own land.
Further, noted ULFA (an Assamese militant group) terrorist leaders have been residing in BD. In fact their leader was recently captured and handed over to India by BD. India also has chargesheets against a noted militant group operating in BD for planning and executing terror attacks in India. I am not sure of the name, its either Jamat-e-Islami or Harkut-ul-Jehad.
Now, I think due to the above reasons or more, India might be trying to exert its influence over BD. Its generally known that the current Sheikh Hasina govt. is India's friend or as some Pakistanis put it she is controlled by India. How a democratically elected govt. can be controlled from outside? I will leave that to you.
I wrote all the above from the top of my head. There could definitely be more angles to the story.
But coming back to topic, for all its influence India cant really be using BARC to expand its influence into Afghanistan. Two reasons -
a) BARC is an NGO. Hard for a govt. to control a NGO especially when a big NGO like BARC can manage its own finances and is not dependent upon the govt. On top of that, for India to use the BD govt to control BARC seems too far-fetched.
b) If India seeks to expand its influence in Afghanistan, then it would want the maximum publicity for its activities. Now how do you get the mileage and publicity by using a third party like BARC that doesnt give India any credit? Simply no gain for India from a "publicity" standpoint.
And again Nazia, dont get me wrong, lets assume for a moment that India is indeed using BARC. Hasnt BARC done all good work uptill now? I know we are all curious of their motives but how does it matter, when it helps the ordinary Afghans?
Thank you Khalsa for taking your time out to write all that our respected Singh.
With the love and respect that I have recieved from people here, the least I could do is share whatever I know with whosoever is interested on this forum.
If you think about an NGO means practically nothing. BD can be using this NGO to strive to gain some sort of influence in Afghanistan that it can use against India or Pakistan.
Read my previous reply, to Jasmine I guess. BD could be doing that but how much value or bargaining power it can get out of it is debatable. From what I know, there are still large swathes of countryside that are under Taliban control and it would be hard for any NGO to help out the people there.
I agree. But India has already gain publicity they are the largest donors in the region.
Again, so what can the BRAC offer India, if thats indeed the case? All I can think of is access to people. But India is not selling any goods in Afghanistan to gain benefit from access to people. What else? Goodwill and support of the people? Of the first, I believe India has enough already. Of the latter, it wont matter, when India doesnt plan to have a political presence in Afghanistan.
That is true, but cant pass that judgement since Afghanistan lacks media and press.
You are right. Media in a place like Afghanistan can be controlled. But I would still wait for any untoward incident or a supporting news before I proceed in that direction.
