US: Afghans Resisting Efforts to Track Cash Exodus

A U.S. watchdog agency says Afghan customs officials are resisting U.S. efforts to help track billions of dollars being flown out of Kabul airport every year.

The United States and other nations have long expressed concern about the amount of cash being sent out of the country — an estimated $4.5 billion last year, according to the U.S. Congressional Research Service.
To help Afghanistan track cash moving through the airport, the U.S. purchased more than $100,000 worth of bulk currency counting equipment.

In its report released on Tuesday, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction said that its staff visited the airport in September and November but never saw the cash counters being used. Moreover, the report says VIPs — some carrying cash — continue to bypass controls.

Pretty much matches up to what was discussed here:

    http://news.yahoo.com/taliban-popula...161235459.html

Afghanistan continues to be one of the poorest countries in the world, with the average person earning less than one dollar a day despite $32 billion in foreign investment.

The country has also tumbled in corruption ratings assembled by Transparency International. Afghanistan was ranked 117 out of 158 countries in 2005, then slid to 180 out of 183 nations last year. The scandal-ridden Kabul Bank milked millions of dollars from Afghans' savings.

      Remember,

Most of the news coming out of the Afghan news papers is pretty much vetted and approved by folks affiliated with the government.

The newspaper owners themselves make as share in the continued war profiteering sham that is now an integral part of the military industrial complex.

Each time you see some article that comes out of Tolo etc and it says:
"Zillion dollar computer city built on outskirts of Kabul"

Remember that the reality is far different.

        par for the course

if these people aren't playing big shots in afg, they are on state assistance in the US.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
