  • 70% of Afghan women are raped via forced marriages

I'm making this thread again because the last time some Taliiban supporter in his desperation went on a tirade to derail the thread. Moderators; prevent anyone from making irrelevant remarks from derailing this thread.

    BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission estimates that between 60 and 80 per cent of all marriages in Afghanistan are forced marriages and approximately 57 per cent of girls are married before the age of 16.

Which means about 70% of women in Afghanistan are raped.

I think one way is to create a negative stigma for the practice would be one way. People tend to draw away from things if they're constantly portrayed as negative.

can you actually state how you can practically implement a policy that prevents people from doing this?

arrests, rescuing women in such situations, giving them state support and sheltering them, educating them etc. etc.

those are cures for the symptoms. Your name is revolutionthroughreason yet you can't tackle the cause of problems. All you do is talk about curing symptoms.

I already explained how to tackle the cause; then you asked how we prevent it. Those deals with the symptoms

Don't worry the reason is still in tact; I answer appropriately to the relevant questions I think that you were expecting that I couldn't answer so now you're getting a little frustrated since I can and are mixing up the nature of your questions.

Equating forced marriages to rape is bad reasoning. You cannot associate a potential outcome to a variable when the co-relation between the two is tenuous. I'm not saying that forced marriages are morally justifiable, and neither am I denying their existence. I agree with your idea, but not the argument.

Well when you consider that in forced marriages the sexual relationship that ensues would thereby be forced; then this is not only a fair but accurate correlation.

In Shariah, a marriage where the bride does not consent is not valid. Therefore if they do have sex, it could be considered rape.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A previously-married woman should not be married without being consulted, and a virgin should not be married without asking her permission.” They said, “O Messenger of Allaah, how is her permission given?” He said, “By her silence.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 6455).
