    — Afghan women lined up to register to vote:

Women sufferage movements have not advanced after the fall of the afghan government in 92. It has today the same influence it did during the taliban regime. It will take generations for it to have any legs but first step is security, for the war to end. After that it will naturally evolve.

there are videos of young women in afghanistan, working to make changes for women and many getting an education.

i don't think of societies that are not like the western societies as backward or retarded. they are just different and some better, as they are more connected to nature.
there are things about my society that are extremely rank to things i love. similar to my view of other societies except most societies don't have the rankness of this use of uranium and depleted uranium. this is for my mind, the very worst that humanity has come up with....ever.

what is happening is that all of these societies are being forced, by economics, manipulation, choice and peer pressure, to change.

you do realize that current afghan governmnet laws restrict women from advancing socially. there are women who are working right now for women rights and there were women fighting for women rights under the taliban regime. women sufferage movements will never die, they always be there, they just need sucurity to evolve and advance. right now they do not have it. look at iran in 79 and look at it today. huge difference

i read malalais book not long after it came out and i have accessed RAWA.
aren't there disputes about the afgan laws for women, by the women there?
as far as iran, i have read some stories from visitors to iran in recent years and was there myself in 77. the latter tales were pretty interesting and positive about some aspects.
it is hard to really look at iran from outside though as so much seems to be towards it needing to have it's butt kicked by the israelis, u.s. and nato.
like people here say that anything about afghan women is propaganda and an excuse to be attacking the taliban.

Goe, I think you are one of those Afghans about whom Khushal Khan Khattak said that they are "in intellect a little discreet"

But don't worry, such species are everywhere - here in Poland, in Netherlands and in any other place.

The secular/Communists of yesterday, Democratists of today, are solely responsible for the situation of Afghanistan as well as its people, including women and children.

They have always aligned themselves with alien and foreign wars against the Afghan masses- this while falsely holding the banner of nationalism- a title they have no right to claim at all...it this militant secular mind set that has caused all the recent wars in Afghanistan. Likewise they are responsible for holding back Afghan women. They have supported imposing wars upon Afghanistan and foreign ideologies . Due to this they have lost, but they are responsible for the wars in the first place.

The Taliban were a response to the civil war which saw a situation of disorder and crime- women/girls were raped, people were murdered, crime was rampant.

The reason that has been stated for the restriction on womens' movement was for their own safety. Taliban had taken over most of Afghanistan, but the Northern Alliance remained holed up in Panjsher.

People want security and order. This is the first priority for any government that wants to hold onto power. Once a government fails in protecting the people, then it loses credibility and will eventually be removed or ousted.

Karzai's regime in Kabul is an example of this. Hosni Mubarrak and Gaddafi are evident of this, and the Syrian fight against Assad is evident of this.

Once a regime either cant protect the people, starts to oppress its people, and in Karzai's case, supports a NATO occupation against the will of the Afghan masses, it in invites an uprising/revolution .

Power always rests with the people in one form or another even if they do not realize it for some time.

you screaming wench the big pashtun he men, 'lynx' (haha) and 'shadowman' (haha) squealing out for the mods like 2 year olds.
you guys carrying on about the past of pakistan and afghanistan, over and over, while you live in the west is so bloody pathetic.
lynx, i have never even seen you put forward what you think to be a solution or good outcome for afghanistan.
whatever is the situation, however it got that way, improving things is what needs to be done. not drooling over the blame game like geriatrics.
denying that situations exist because of inferiority complexes and pride is totally regressive.
i can see all the problems of my own society and have been aware of most of it since i was about 17 years old. you guys sit in the west, where yours mothers sisters daughters and wives have the freedom to get good health care, education, jobs, etc, and practice the muslim religion.
but it is like you want afghanistan to stay stuck in time, so you can brag about how 'pashtun' they are there.
so, while you are sitting pretty, wingeing 'like an old maid' about every aspect of your american society, lynx, do you really want the taliban to take over the people of afghanistan again, because that is the impression i get from you and some others here?
