Before the Cold War effect, Soviet Invasion, Civil War and Taliban. What was there in Afghanistan?
Many people from around the world who traveled there described it as a Shangri-La/Zamina 1001 Shab or the land of 1001 nights. Afghanistan in many regions remained the way Alexander The Great witness it. Yet there was a change happening in its main cities. Civilization was in full progress and many people looked up to the western development and stability. Modernization was in full progress. While poverty and social problems was inherent, the people lived peacefully in region that has been in turmoil over the last 4000 years. The Cold War effect followed by Soviet Invasion brought Afghanistan in a dawn ward spiral that would last 25 years. Today Afghanistan is so devastated and destroyed some still think of Afghanistan as 7 century world that it is hard to believe it was once peaceful and civilized. Many of its ancient treasures looted and destroyed. Witness Afghanistan before the dawn of civilization and you will realise that We did it before we can do it again togethe

most travellers were heading east to west or west to east to go through afghanistan. i was only in herat and kandahar to quetta, coming from europe to india, so didn't see what was happening in kabul.
it certainly wasn't westernised, like the video, where i went.
