A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Shah Wali Karzai, half-brother to Mahmoud and now the appointed successor to Ahmed Wali, was in the room as well. We chatted about the housing development and about the United States, where he had been trained as an engineer. He was clearly playing an integral role in the development, particularly in establishing the infrastructure. They had finished 2,000 housing units but were planning to build 11,000. The land had been acquired in an opaque manner, and there were accusations of favoritism in the doling out of tracts, but the success of the project — where I saw children playing on the streets at night, convenience stores fully stocked — was not a facade. Several of the business owners I eventually interviewed either already lived or sought residences in Aino Mina, as did many others associated with the Karzais or Western money."
"When I detailed the corruption complaints against him, Mahmoud had long explanations for everything. He noted that he was middle class, compared with the riches of corrupt others. But when I asked where to send a thank you note for his hospitality, he gave me an address on the exclusive Palm Jumeirah in Dubai."
"But, despite luxuries rivalling those found in exclusive suburban communities in the United States, many owners are trying to sell or rent out their homes. Others have temporarily abandoned properties. The reason is as simple as the long-standing estate agent's maxim: location, location, location."
"2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote
It makes my blood boil to see how these zaliman won't let people live in peace =( bal chishi ghwari ... duni winay yeh toy kral chi tsok la nadih pa khabar =(
Is this Aino Mena? Hmm I am disapointed it looks really cheap and the buildings look like they are old and there is litel green where is the big park and the shoping street and not to forget teh big mosque, or is that not finished yet. In the 3D designs that was made by the Architectual bureau looks totaly difrent.
Like Osho said, it is always better than nothing. Obviously, those who are behind this project will gain the most. The general public gains from it as well. They have to an extent a well built suburb.
There is a need for low cost housing projects potentially for the majority middle class rather than erecting a row of villas which the average Kandahari only wishes to have one in the after-world.
^Low cost housing can only be realised when Afghan goverment have money to sustain them and build them. This is a private project.
And only if Afghanistan become industralized, it can built many low cost houses.
But that is not gona happen really soon.

They are building these villas because apparently there are average Kandaharis who can afford them. They wouldn't build them if people cannot afford them, would they?
I would definitely agree with you that they should also pay attention to low cost housing projects for the average Afghans. But, it looks like they have affordable housings as well in that project. They have built around 2000 houses, and I don't think they are all villas. Their original plan was to build around 12,000 houses.

Most people who live in such villas have Dollars because they are either government workers got their money from their american masters and charity organisations or criminals who have stolen the money.
While people are dying out of famine, they are building high villas and competing in building tall buildings the same for other muslims around to world.
High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.
