Construction work on Khost
airport launched

KHOST CITY (PAN): Construction work on a US-funded airport, a $2.5
million project, was launched in southeastern Khost province on
Wednesday, officials said.
The foundation stone of the airport was laid by Governor Abdul Jabbar
Naeemi after a ceremony in a desert between Ismailkhel and Tanai
districts.
A number of officials, tribal elders, religious scholars and residents
participated in the ceremony. Funds for the project were provided by the
US and Afghan government, the governor said on.
Boundary walls and security posts would be constructed with the available
funds, Naeemi said, adding they would try to find more budgets for the
airport.
Provincial police chief, Sardar Muhammad Zazai, hoped the construction of
the airport would have a positive impact on the law and order situation in
Khost.
A tribal elder from the Lakanai area, Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan, said they
had time and again requested the president, ministers and provincial
officials for the construction of the airport. He was happy with the project.
