"One thing that has occurred in my lifetime is a bloating of the definition of U.S. interests. National interests are mostly life-and-death things—access to energy, access to freedom of the seas, and now the freedom of the air, an ability to defend ourselves. Frankly, that the idea of human rights, women's rights are hardly national interests outside the United States, and certainly nothing we should intervene to promote. The idea that someone loses a son who is a Marine so that Mrs. Mohammad can vote in Iraq, to me, is just a crime."

Ok, I wonder why couldn't you stay put in Kandahar to self-evolve in the prefect lab environment (that you idealise for the brethern back home) isolated/insulated from any external interference instead of migrating to a post-modern society in a quest to better your life (hahaha couldn't remain contented with engineering degree and switched to med education for its monetary potential most probably)....

Obviously, the obcession with a khalafath under Abdullah Azam leaves you unable to see it as a humanistic issue above "Islam versus the West conflict"...

I didn't say it... Mike did. Email him or comment at his site. He was born here and educated as a historian without much monetary reward and has no links to Kandahar. Seems like you have confused he and I.

Btw, I completed my engineering degree... so I remain an engineer and a physician by God's good grace. Additionally, being an academic physician in a hospital center is not very economically rewarding.

no, they are already on the net. i wasn't blaming you. i notice it a lot on docos where someone is in hiding and they virtually show the suburb and the house the hidden person is staying in or some other info that exposes the person. then they are put on the net.

"Religion was found to have little to do with radicalisation or antipathy towards Western culture. Muslims were condemnatory of promiscuity and a sense of moral decay. What they admired most was liberty, its democratic system, technology and freedom of speech.

While there was widespread support for Sharia, or Islamic law, only a minority wanted religious leaders to be making laws. Most women in the predominantly Muslim countries believed that Sharia should be the source of a nation’s laws, but they strongly believed in equal rights for women."

Isn't your reasons for being in canada for the sake of it's monetary potential? On account of the prestige you will have when you go back to peshawar and tell everyone " I was teaching in Canada..." with pride.

You are not much of an ideologist either sir.

But then I am following the golden i.e., choose for others what you choose for yourself...Unfortunately, Barakzai is not chosing for the brethern back home what he has chosen for himself.

Toramana, what upsets me, is the fact that when others dictate to those abroad about how they should be, while on the other hand they live under laws for which they violently oppose, goes to show the individuals morality and character.

I have had a good standard of education, I would love to see our people be educated with an open mind and to be free to express their thoughts.

It is good to see women in Kandahar be educated, maybe they will have a voice now to speak up in such a male dominated society.

Its time for Pashtun women to be accepted as equals and no longer used as some kind of currency to settle tribal wars or Religionously.

A educated population is a healthy population

There is a conspiracy on the Pashtun people, outsiders are trying to hide and cover up the real problems and work to avoid addressing them, to keep the Pashtun population reluctant to study and educate themselves.

It comes in many forms from Religonous propaganda to Political Propaganda.

We, I, You all know Pashtun women are treated as third class citizens in our society. Its a fact. Everyone knows this, I hope education powers our women.
