  • Kandahar Province Offers Aid to Japan

KABUL - One of impoverished Afghanistan’s most violent provinces on Saturday offered $50,000 in aid to help victims of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami, officials said. The cash has been offered by officials in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, which is seen as the birthplace of the Taliban and is one of the areas worst affected by violence in Afghanistan’s near-ten year war. ‘On behalf of the residents of Kandahar, mayor Ghulam Haidar Hamidi announced $50,000 in aid to the people affected by earthquakes and tsunami in Japan,’ a statement from Kandahar’s provincial governor said. Japan was hit by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake on Friday which triggered a tsunami, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousands unaccounted for. The world’s third-largest economy has been one of the main contributors of aid for the reconstruction and development of desperately poor Afghanistan. In 2009, Japan pledged up to five billion dollars in aid for Afghanistan, to be delivered by 2013. (AFP)

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I was also thinking of the same. That amount of money being donated is a lot of money to be used for Kandahar.

But Kandahar province themselves has donated the money out of their own heart.

      May Allah (SWT) reward them.

Kandaharis/Afghans have better lives right now then some Japanese. Especially those who are internally displaced. At the end of the day, a human is a human. Japan has pledged $5BN in Aid for Afghans, wouldn't you think it's nice to show that we can also try to help. It's the intention that matters.

What in the world does foreigners have to do with this?
When children are starving in Afghanistan, and getting killed, this is seriously unnecessary.
Read the article carefully. The person has *offered* the $. It is in the intention that counts. Your logic is flawed my friend. When the Japanese offer war-torn Afghanistan $5billion, that is fine. But when they face a natural disaster that is arguably the worse in their history, we have to give them a cold-shoulder? Have you forgot that they are also human, and they might need our assistance as well?

Afghans have a duty to all other Afghans first.
That is obviously true. That is already going on, isn't it? When someone suffers, you can't be selfish. Sometimes you have to just realize we are all humans. Whether someone suffers in Tokyo or in Kabul, he or she is a human.

aww , i feel so proud. may God give us more to share with those in need. japan has been kind to us in the past and though we can not give as much as we afghans (minus the few selfish creeps who obviously lack common courtesy) would like do so, i am pretty sure whatever is given would be appreciated.

unknown did you ever show your appreciation to japan when they promised to give afghans 5 billion dollars in aid?? 50 000 thousand is nothing in comparison to that you ungrateful moron.

i think its a great gesture showing that Afghanistan never stays behind even in a war situation.
unknownprince afghanistan also sent in doctors and helicopters to Pukhtunkhwa in the time it was hit by the floods.
you are right that its better to use that money ,lets say ,on refugees from helmand living in kabul near Qargha.
i dont think Japan might be in need of such a donation but it does have a symbolic value.

The US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not a natural disaster. Please read my posts more carefully.

For example, you have duty to your immediate family first before you set out to help others. One first has to make sure that our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers are being fed, and then we can go and help Japanese people.
i agree that theyre very dirty and ugly. very suitable words to describe them.

i agree in the sense that these corrupt cronies in power are busy worrying about public relations and stunts instead of their very own neighbors dying of starvation and being killed or sent to prison without jusitification.

there's a couple hundred thousand IDPS from kandahar and helmand region alone in afghanistan who have to bury their own kids in the camps that die of starvation and cold. where is the help and pledging there? isnt it hypocrisy and stupidity?

help your own countrymen first before worrying about fake and opportunistic public relations stunts.

this corrupt government doesnt even allow their IDPS access to water pumps and sanitation facilities and instead encourages and participates in a foriegn-led genocide of their very own citizens.

its called symbolic. afghanistan sending 50,000 dollars to japan while japan sends 5 billion to afghanistan. though, i dont care one way or the other.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
