Here are some ideas expressed by someone else that I wanted to share with you:
"As a single footstep will not make a path in the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."
What kind of thought do we think about so often that they dominate our minds? Are these thoughts that help to make this world a better place? Are they thoughts that Praise Allah? Are we conscious of how powerful even our thoughts can be?
During WWII there was a song (written in the 1800's) sung by any who resisted the occupation of their countries. It was called "Die Gedanken Sind Frei", or in English, "The Freedom of Thought". It was a very powerful song, and yet people simply hummed it, it was a way of communicating. Especially the 3rd verse:
Sperrt man mich geich ein
im fenstern Kercher
So sind es doch nur
vergeblicher werke
Denn meine gedanken
Zerreissen die schranken
und mauren entzwei
Die gedanken sind frei.
and although I am thrown
into a dark dungeon
it is for nothing
because my thoughts
will tear down the barriers and walls
My thoughts make me free!
Let us consider what kind of thoughts occupy our minds.
