  • Ethnicization of politics in Afghanistan

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I seriously stopped reading when he said that "British created the state of Afghanistan." Seriously after reading half of this published crap, and this back and forth lashing at Pashtuns, i am convinced this is written by some farsiwan who is obviously in a inferiority complex. Hard to believe this ghwool is working at a university and spreading fake lies about Afghanistan and pashtuns through his stupid book. Sadly the american public will eat this up as the truth.

Oh and since when was Northern Afghanistan ever refereed to as "Turkistan"? LOL.

Disappointed in this nonsensical article as well; it's more of an op-ed than an paper.

in the acknowledgement, is it necessary to bring family and kordarai into public foray,

"Finally, I would like to thank my wife, Aykhanum Qeyam, for supporting and
encouraging me to pursue this degree. Without my wife’s great patience and encouragement at
all times, I would not have finished the degree."

I went into this with an open mind.

              Then I read
"There is a consensus between the historians that the original homeland of Pashtuns lays between the Indus River of North India and the sides of Himalayas."

              What the hell is this?!
So apparently, there is a consensus between historians that we originate from the Himalayas?
              Complete BS.
              First, there is NO consesnsus.
Second, where the hell did he get North India/Himalayas from?

Of course, he neglected to provide a source for that claim.

To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
              own inclinations and desires

I have to admit that I haven't read the whole paper so my opinion based mainly on Haris post. As you can read on the first page, it was written for the M. A degree. A student can be more or less educated, more or less consciuos of errors. But students write thesis under supervsion. This work demonstrates a low level (or lack of professional supervision) of the university staff.

Many sensitive issues act as an impediment to democratization.
Some of these include: the development of an inclusive national identity, clarifying the relative size of each ethnic group via a census, electoral system that fits in the context of the country, equally distribution of power among the distinct communities, and particularly re-establishment of political authority, are not solved in the post-Taliban era of Afghanistan. This thesis argues that the formation of a broad-based federal structure or a power-sharing parliamentary system that reflects the ethnic composition of Afghan society as a whole would be one of best options to solve the crisis of ethnic politics in Afghanistan
His abstract seemed decent, thats all I read though.
