I have lived in Malaysia for a while; long enough to decide whether I would consider living there or recommending it to anyone. I've been to most of the place you have posted pictures of. They are very worth seeing and experiencing. Like many of you have said, it is a great holiday destination, a place for the whole family, for the ageing father to enjoy scenery, for mothers and daughters to do a lot of shopping. For the family as a whole to enjoy the high class (and not so high class) restaurants, night life and markets. To, with ease travel to breathtakingly beautiful Masjids within close proximity. As for living, I haven't been to the other cities, but I can speak for the city life and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It is a country that has very little security. Especially if you're moving from the West, it is, I wont say impossible, but highly improbable to adjust to. The night life is a threat to any stable family. Immorality, fraud and crime are dominant in the city. A visit is always a good idea before relocating.

Mahzala, were you mostly in KL?
It's true, it is too bustling and probably has become more dangerous since I was there.
However, compared with ANY large city in the Western world, unless it's really gotten way worse, I would feel more peaceful there.
However, KL in general is not as nice as Kelantan, for example. Penang is a terrible tourist trap and has been for decades.
The East Coast of Malaysia in general is so much nicer.
Zahir knows what I mean, I'm sure, from what he says. There IS an indescribable atmosphere which reigns over much of Malaysia.
Summerlove, the term Malay usually refers to the indigenous Muslim community in Malaysia. They are politically dominant, but the two minority groups have some weight too.
Shlombay, take a trip over and see if you think Manhattan is the same as these places! I'd say they are a great antidote to the pace of NYC>
