  • A trip to Iran and the Pashtunlands.

    Hi there!

I would like to make a trip to Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
But I've a few questions and issues to deal with:

Can someone brief me how's going in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan? Cheap countries? Can I cross the border directly by car or better to take a flight? Do these countries at good relations? If I will wear clothes like a local and can read the Quran it'll be fine right? I've 2 passports, Israeli Passport and Romanian (EU), but....I live in Israel right now, so from what country shall I fly and from which to come back?

    Thanks!

    Good days

Compared to west, yes all the mentioned countries are considerably cheaper.Yes you can cross by road though for Pakistan-Afghanistan road option is not bad but you should travel to iran on air(if available) otherwise the road option is also available.

PM me if you want to come to KPK in Pakistan.

Iran is oke but boring, Afghanistan is in rumbel and no tourist placess, all the nice nature and mountain places are filled with talibs and some other shady figues who will kidnap you just becuase you are a foreigner, Pakistan is also in chaos right now, but I guess you can find there better tourist places than in Afghanistan, but still traveling all by yourself is quite dangerous......

Go to india, nepal, cambodia, if you really want extreme tourism, go to IS controlled area (you might find some your people there) or go check out columbian flora, or even better try ipanema

                Afghanistan? Persona nongrata.

Dont take it personally as we mean nothing to each other.

                    Wtf?

                    Please come to Pakistan.

Pakistan is safer than Iran or tribal Pakistan areas.

For an indian,Pakistan not only is safe but cheaper and much more hospitable.

I can recall many stories by indian visitor mentioning as restaurant don't charge them, infact even rickshah wal refused to take money when they told him of they being from india

Iran is in many areas much safer than Europe. You can be sure. But i doubt with your passport you get any visa.

                              Please note the following
                              1. Ask a travel agency and embassies of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan to guide you for visa requirements and travel arrangements.
                              2. You have both choices of land and air for all the three countries. Depends on your budget and time. All the three countries have international airports as well as land entry points. Read maps of the 3 countries. All the three are geographically contiguous.
                              3. If your purpose is to improve your Pashto and Persian then land option is better as you will have a lot of interaction with native speakers.
                              4. Use your Romanian passport as I think all the three countries unfortunately do not have diplomatic relations with Israel.
                              5. I have seen many backpackers who travel these countries without any risk so go with it. Be in simple local dress and do not visit places which are sensitive from defense point of view. Do not join big gatherings or where large contingents of police or army are present especially in Pakistan or Afghanistan.
