here is an american who will disagree with you about non-intervention, barakzai.

WARNING: some swearing.'You're all illegal!' Native American confronts 'anti-illegal immigration' protesters - YouTube

i am also anti intervention, but the thing is, that it is not the same now, for small countries like afghanistan. other countries are intervening from left, right and from thousands of miles away. also, most of these countries need aid. when they are getting aid, they can be blackmailed and manipulated to conform to the demands of the aid givers.

Faye that is the most awesome video I have seen in a long time. The logic is so stone cold solid that I have no idea what anyone could even say to that!

I agree with you that I wish honesty was a greater part of this discussion. The issue with modern empires is that they choose to couch their ambition in this sort of double speak. I guess when enlightment comes people have to find a moral imperitive.

I was reading an article the other day about the Mexican American War and how James Polk had to deal with Lincoln and a whole host of other anti interventionalists of the era like Thoreau and Emerson... even back then manifest destiny had to be used to motivate the people into action.

The lands south of it are Mullah Falwell country - a very religious area where Baptism - the nearly takfirist brand of Christianity dominates and holds sway. These young men provide the military with thousands of recruits from the volunteer state and beyond
Wanted to add that contrary to the leftist media's assertion that poor minorities are the ones forced into the military, most of the combat troops I've encountered , are White guys that come from the small towns of Christian, Connservative, 'Jesusland' aka the 'red states'. They are the ones doing the fighting, and the dying. The 'true believers', so to speak.

              Thanks SiiNii

I corrected that link you pmd about.
Wasnt mean to be derogatory toward Baptists either. Im trying to draw comparisons between the rural vs elite divide that exists world round to show how the lives of these innocents are being toyed with by the the urban elites. I think Scheuer is 100% accurate about this. While it is true that these folks are jingoistic and sometimes rabid in their views - the gaurdians of the countries that they inhabit should not take their brethren and turn them into cannon fodder by manipulation. I think Obama, Bush, karzai, Hollandaise, Sarkozy, Blair, etc all pursue this same sad approach to sustaining their power.

The rural urban divide in values can be seen clearly in the recent protests in France, a place that has supposedly been the bastion of pure secularism shows this :
              http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...e-8231622.html

The rural masses in France are up in arms against gay marriage because they are generally conservative religious folks that also contribute to France's armed forces in uneven numbers.

My whole argument generally rests around Afghan historian Kawun Kakar's comment:

"“In reality, the traditional way of life in villages has changed little by Taliban's rule. The situation of Afghans in the countryside controlled by the Taliban has improved because of increased peace and security, giving them the opportunity to rebuild after two decades of war. But this security comes at a cost. Forced recruitment of young men to fight the ever bloody war of attrition against the Northern alliance has depleted the man-power from these rural centers. In the cities and urban centers, the more modern and liberal way of life conflicts sharply with that of the Taliban's social and religious values."

              http://www.institute-for-afghan-stud...ntro_kakar.htm

What happens in times of war and challenge to the national character (e.g. invasion/economic decline) is that polarization deepens as various factions take sides. So the rural urban/secular religious gap widens and instability ensues.

These raging conflicts that the Western world partakes in are not stabilizing these countries but rather stunting their progression towards stability and radicalizing all the factions.

Thats why you see Toramana, who is a marxist-come capitalist party member of a very very corrupt party in northern Pakistan hopping mad over any semblance of religious mention - he is programmed to find members of an equally corrupt hyperconservative party and debate them based on what he views as ques they send out to trigger his hypersensitive (but nonspecific antennae). This is his life's mission and explains the prowling through my posts.

To explain and help you relate, its sort of like how an ardent Palin republican or Hillarycrat tries to sniff out the other to start a team sports style/superbowl debate.

Now the latter (Hillarycrat and Palinite) generally dont resort to violence because of the rather stable environs in the US. But these radicalized parties in the middle east, central asia, and africa are even more polar and paranoid because of the localized instability. Its a frightening sight actually. If you remember the imagery of the Hitler Jugend marching in sequence and preprogrammed, you can find similar imagery at an Awami National Party get together. Same goes for the black turbaned ones.

Best way to afford that part of the world stability is to make them fight their own battles against eachother and just get the hell out of dodge.

The lands south of it are Mullah Falwell country
Haha I'm stealing that. From now on I'm calling all of these Fundamentalist Rapture Christian leaders 'Mullahs'.

                Falwell, man I hated him.
                God is pro-war
President Bush declared war in Iraq to defend innocent people. This is a worthy pursuit. In fact, Proverbs 21:15 tells us: “It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.”

One of the primary purposes of the church is to stop the spread of evil, even at the cost of human lives. If we do not stop the spread of evil, many innocent lives will be lost and the kingdom of God suffers.
Typical of his ilk, neither the late Falwell, nor his two sons show any record of military combat service, or any service at all.

Finally, some reading this column will surely ask, “Doesn’t the sixth commandment say, ‘Thou shalt not kill?’”

Actually, no; it says: “Thou shalt not commit murder.”

The link to the Afghan historian's book was cut off, can you repost the link? It's naive of me but I didn't think that the Taliban had to force anybody to join back in those days.

Now the latter (Hillarycrat and Palinite) generally dont resort to violence because of the rather stable environs in the US
True. In past times, the party in power didn't make a difference in the two party system and voters knew it. Our future will look more like the rest of the democratic world, where people will not patronize businesses, live in the same neighborhood as, or even be on friendly terms with those of opposition parties.

As for the Utah sheriff, when he says :
"We like you swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation."
He speaks of a right the majority of non-Americans, and unfortunately many native born Americans, are unaware of. While the President is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, US military personnel swear to uphold the supreme law of the land, the Constitution. It is the right of all citizens to disobey un-Constitutional orders.
